Intermittant wiper assemblies.

Ok, let me start by saying that I have researched this extensivly, up to and including a mostly unfruitfull visit @ the JY.

I'm the proud owner of a 92 manual festiva. I'm slowly pimping it out and addressing the upgrades one at a time.

My next project, made more pressing by the recent steering wheel upgrade, is the intermittant wiper assembly.

I found a nice pic of an orange one without the cruise control, apparently taken from a mercury of some kind.

Do I need the assembly that comes with the little white wire sticking out?

When I went to the JY, I saw many, many, early 90's 323 lx's that had white lettering, *VARIABLE*, non-cruise control assemblies... Does anyone know if these are a straight swap?

Yes the 323 is the variablle switch you want. It goes right in our cars, you will need the module that the switch is attached too. If you could get another white non cruise one I will buy it from you.

I go by that jy all the time. They're one of the few within range that is opened on saturday. They had at the very least 3 white, non cruise, variable assemblies. The owner is a little bit of a dink. I expect he will try to gouge. Seeing as it's about 1hr to yoink one out, I wanted to be darn sure I had the correct one.

I really want to be 100% sure, seeing as I'm going to have to pull several steering wheels if I've hit a rich "vein" of white wiper assemblies.

About this module... What's it look like? Is it something buried in the dash? Or is it in the steering column?

I've seen a fair amount of pics while fine combing the forum, haven't seen or heard any mention of modules.

(PS I've converted my GF who is buying a white festiva!)

congrats on converting the GF! I'll try and get you a pic of the module this afternoon if I can find my camera cable. If you want ot see what it looks like though, basically just take off the little cover that goes over the steering column, and you can see the module. Its just a little box looking thing with a plug on the back and the wiper stick coming out of it

Ohhhh You mean the stuff in the middle?

I knew I had to take the whole thing off. The guy @ the JY did say they sold whole assemblies, not just stalks.

I'm almost tempted to disasemble mine, just to get familiar with what to expect. It's pretty easy since I changed the steering wheel, and I need to take it apart anyways, as my horn is missing something to function properly.

(in my defense, it's a grant series & the instructions that came with it were pretty weak...)

Here's some pics of the module. Its still in the car and attatched, but you can get the basic idea of what it looks like at least. You need the actual switchbox that stalk goes into anyway, just getting the stalk won't be enough. If you have to take off the wheel anyway, go ahead and pull the whole light/wiper module and get familiar with it like you said. Also, some of them have a cruise control switch on them. Just tuck the CC wire under the plastic cover thing and forget about it when you put everything back together, it doesn't really affect anything

I wish I woulda knew that today, I found two in 626s at the yard... oh well, I'm going back on saturday so I'll try to get you one then. Mine is from a 626 with cruise, and I'm thinking I may try to rig the cruise up/down switch to the volume on the stereo, just for the fun of it.

I wonder if the cruise one could be wired to the factory cruise control?

i thought about keeping the cruise control on my BP when i did my swap, and swap over the steering wheel with the controls on it, but couldnt get the blasted box that controls it out from underneath the dash of my scort parts car!

probably... on mine the plug that came out of the cruise thing confused me cause it plugs right up to the plug that the stock festy light control plug goes into (ie. its the same shape). But if you have cruise, you could probably hook it up. Where is the stock cruise switch located on the festy? In the cluster bezel with the defog switch and stuff? I want to get a steering wheel with several buttons for cruise and stuff and rewire all those to control the radio like my old boss's jeep liberty had on it.

Festiva cruise control is located on a separate stalk that goes on the left hand side of the column

The best upgrade I've done to the daily driver is the variable speed intermitent wiper from a 88 323gt. Makes driving in this crappy weather a little better.
The 323 ones are non-cruise.

my old station wagon had continually variable intermittent wipers... it was pretty much overkill, but the stalk turned 3/4 of a full turn, and there were no notched settings, you could just keep turning up and down till it had the exact timing you wanted... but by then it had usually already stopped raining :lol: I love my four-setting one in the silver car though
