  • diy headlight covers?

Since I can't seem to find headlight covers (cws doesn't list them anymore) I've been thinking about making my own. (I'm looking to do the round headlight conversion, btw)

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

I was thinking that I'd take the stock headlamp and use that as a mold, by draping heated lexan or plexi over it. Figuring out how to fasten it to the car is the next trick.

    Any thoughts?

Not sure if this is what you want , but about 26 years ago , I had a Datsun ,and wanted smoked lenses for it , I measured the hole and went to a glass company , picked out the dark tint plexi and had them cut the plexi to the cardboard template I made . Then I just used some clear sealant to secure it in the hole .

I checked with one of our suppliers today about whether they could make them for me or if they had any. I got a big, fat no on both counts. Damn! These guys will make custom headlight covers for pretty much anythihg, except for Festivas I guess.

There are still some of the GTS smoked covers around for the Festiva but it's been a long time since I've seen clear ones. The headlights of the the second generation (I think)Jetta, the one with the big rectangular ones, are close in size to the Festiva's so maybe these could be made to work.

I talked to a friend tonight about this. He works for a plastics company, and has experience with this sort of thing. I think we got the process nailed down, but the question of how to attach them remains. It's about halfway solved now.

                        K. I found it. All i did was mask off the inside of the lens, and sprayed with black. Is this what you were looking for?

Nope. I'm doing the round headlight conversion, and will need a set of covers that fill up the space where the stock lenses would normally fit.

I seems I've got it worked out however, with the help of some friends on the board here.
