  • power hatch lock

scored an unused oem dealer power lock kit at a yard sale. i don't want to cut holes in the door panels and really don't see a need for power locks when the knob is only an arms length away but i thought it would be a great convenience to unlock/lock the rear hatch with the switch which is very close in size to the festy bezel switches, maybe a little trimming. it fits real well in the radio delete bin but i'd have to hog out the back for the wiring. when the weather gets a little warmer i'll see if the actuator can be adapted to the rear hatch linkage.

If you're looking to do this kind of thing, you can also pull the power truck relaease mechanism out of a Lincoln or other full size Ford. They're a pretty simple linear solenoid. I haven't actually tried to hook one up to a Festy yet, but I can't see it being too hard.

you guys wanna talk about yard sales..... I was in Norwalk ohio on on of those yardsale days when I saw a cardboard box with a ford logo on it (insert tire screeching sounds here). I ended up with 2 rebuild kits for ford T-9 transmissions (syncros, bearings and various goodies) 2 OEM premium sound amplifiers, center caps for TRX wheels, a box of swaybar bushings and end links for various fords. 1 whole box with 1 of just about every brochure for every ford car made from 77-88 horn buttons, power window switches, power window wiring plugs, relays, and 2 drawers full of blank keys...

all for $25 and all I wanted were the center caps and one of the horn buttons.

I guess I will be getting rid of my OEM Ford power door lock kit, since I installed Protege actuators instead. Anyway, I was walking into Fairview Mall in St. Catherines today and saw a Volkswagen hatch open completely by itself and close completely by itself. I think it was a Passat. Has anyone else seen this or knows how it works?

I don't personally know, but the other posters in this thread might. I'll run back to 2007 and ask them...

In all seriousness, I believe they're controlled by powered hydraulics. It has become a standard feature on many modern cars.
