I have an idea that I want to see if anybody can think of a reason why it wouldn't work. My 88 festy is pretty rusted underneath. Right now I use a 5 foot wood 2X3 on each side to jack it up and support it on jackstands. The only parts that I can lift on that don't bend or make really scary sounds are the rear axle and front suspension. So I was thinking that welding in a piece of 5 foot square tubing along the rockers would give me a permanent spot to lift/support the car. Since the floor isn't flat it would have to be a series of small welds. This is all assuming that I can grind enough away to find something to weld to. I would think it would stiffen things up a bit and make it handle a little better. Has anybody in the rust belt tried anything like this?
