most door actuators are just simple solenoids or small motors fitted with a wide pitch threaded worm gear. I would think that most any actuator you would find at the jy should work, provided you can fit it inside the door frame and devise some way of hooking it up to the pushrod that controls the lock. a friend of mine had me replace the actuators in his mustang once because one of them went out on him. he bought a kit with two in it, so we replaced both, and i took the old working one home and made a trunk release for my station wagon out of it. All I did was mount it, hook it up to the rear defrost wiring (simple, already in place, plus there was already a switch for it in the dash), and then i attatched it with metal rod to the pushrod for the release. Wasn't hard at all and it beat having to use the key to pop the hatch every time. I'm thinking of a similar mod for the festy if i can ever remember to snag some actuators at the jy... i usually think about it after i'm already halfway home though

Just go to JY and pull some out of a mazda car.
None of them will be a direct fit.
I used the trial and error method until i got some to work.

best bet would be find a large yard that has an aspire in it... then take several different actuators off several different cars and test fit them to the aspire in the yard... thats how I found out escort mirrors and shift consoles fit in the festy (with slight modifications) and that the power mirror switch and intermittent wiper stalk from a 626 works also, etc, etc...

^^^ i hear ya on the waiting for tax return thing... I got some sexy new wheels sitting in the garage for the little blue, but no money to buy rubber for them right now ... and unlike some other things in life, wheels are one thing you can never get away with without using rubber

good luck with the install! Like any good moderator would do when people start discussing stuff in their forum, I picked up a set of three actuators (one for each door and one for the hatch) and two lock buttons today from a couple of first generation tauruses (go figure, its always mazda or taurus with me )... I'll work on installing them over the weekend and try to remember to take pics and do a write-up on it.

rly? thats just weird because we were at ford today about to trade in moms van for another, and my sister owns a tarus and was only a few up there when she got hers, now theres like 20 up there. and she wouldnt shut up about them lol.

ill keep that in mind, hey anyone have a parts database of what interchanges on these things? if not ill look into making a site for it and we can add to it when we find stuff.

oh, nothing actually "interchanges" between the taurus and the festiva. But you can use stuff like door actuators and interior light sockets and other small, self-contained electrical items from just about any car on any car as long as you can mount it... I just tend to gravitate toward tauruses at the yard cause I miss my old ones and I want another one really bad, thats why I find little taurus pieces like the actuators and stuff, but you could probably mod the ones from just about any car to work as long as you can get them to physically fit inside the doors.
