  • hardtop conversion question

I've seen Gary Fulkerson's SoftTop Festiva, it's nice. But I was wanting to use the section I took off and reapply it as a hardtop. I'm planning to cut the top off in about a week or two. I'm kinda stuck tryin' to figure out how I'm gonna weatherproof it. What should I use and where could I get it. Thanx for readin'.

The thing you'd need to do is builg some kind of interfacing structure that would mate the body and the roof. I'd look at how caps go on the beds of pick-ups to get a basic idea. It'd need refinement, but it's a start. As for the tops of the doors, and they're window frames....that's trickier. I would suggest asking someone who runs a traditional hot rod shop. Anyone who builds carson tops for 40s and 50 style cars should have some more ideas for you.

That's what I've been doin' for the past week, I'm surprised no one's called the cops on me for starin' at their vehicles, lol. About the tops of the doors, and their window frames...a friend talked me out of it, so i'm doin' exactly how Gary Fulkerson did it, cut the roof just behind the B-pillars and in-line with the back windows, I normally wouldn't be so urgent about the weatherproofing but since it is Springtime, ya know, rain, I kinda gotta get this weatherproofing situation down packed when I cut the roof off. Minimal downtime as possible. I can find the time later to put in the rollcage, Jeep-style. I love it when people look at me weird when I tell them what I'm doin'.

FYRE, I was thinking about this the other day. I really like the idea. It seems like it would require less work and planning than making a good soft top.

Also look at the Capri roadster hardtop and how it attaches.

Cutting the roof behind the B pillar and then running your cut above the door windows so they still fit well without lots of work sounds good.

        Keep us up to date!

I got a question, has anyone done a hardtop conversion on a Festy yet? If so, hit me up. We need to talk. And about that Capri roadster hardtop, it's hard to get info on the 'Web on installation, no pics, i'll figure out something, i'll keep ya posted, thanx.
