  • radio delete cupholders... interesting

Hey, its your friendly neighborhood custom interior & exterior moderator here with a public service announcement about another mod from another car This weeks model is a cupholder/change drawer from a first generation ford taurus. I pulled it to incorporate into my dash build for the silver car's carputer. I had the radio out of the blue car tonight, and I noticed that the assembly from the taurus matched the radio quite well in shape and size... check these pictures out:

Not fully installed obviously because I'm putting a radio back in there, but as you can see it fits well, and there are already two little holes on each side facing back toward the dash that could be used as mounting holes for screws. Next week's mod? Hopefully a dash clock from either the same taurus I got this tray from or from a 626

I wonder how that would fit into the top section of the factory Festiva console?

^^^ it fits pretty well, thats what I originally pulled it for cause I was gonna pull a console from an auto for the silver... but when I looked closer at it I saw that someone else had already tried to take the console and cracked it pretty good so I left it. But that thing was pretty close in size IIRC... I've had it for a while now so its been a long time since I tried putting it into the console though

If that fits the console we may finally have a simple and effective solution for the cupholder problem!

I have put it in the upper section of the console, but the radio stick out a liitle and large drinks don't fit well. The taurus is from the 90's, the old body style.

Ya having no cup holder is a real pain.....I still remember spending 2 hours cleaning and shampooing my festiva 2 hours later I spilled an intire BIG GULP in my passenger side carpet..........

Words can't describe the anger I felt.......every time I hit the brakes a tidelwave of red sticky pop made it's way to the front of the car and then back under the seat.........

                Funny now ....... Not then!

                That's a great idea.....i'm going junkyard shoppin!

^^^ if all else fails you can always pull out the ashtray that sits behind the e-brake handle and put your cups there as a temporary fix... it even hold the giant plastic cups from fast food places pretty well
