  • Mazda 121 exterior conversion questions

I work for a company called SpeedSource and we run Mazda's road racing program in Grand-Am Cup and the Rolex Series. With that in mind I was thinking it would be cool to have a car that looked like a Mazda 121. Has anybody done a conversion like this? What does it involve? How expensive would it be? Thanks for the help.

On the outside the only real difference is the grill and lights (headlights and corner lights) and the Euro tailights in the back. There are some different interiors available overseas too.

The other big thing I see on Mazda 121's are fun tops. they have special spoilers on the roof with the tops

i wouldn't think they are different enough to really bother worth swapping over, unless the festiva's seen much better days.

It's worth it so that I can appear to have a Mazda since I essentially work for Mazda. It's also a little more unique than a regular Festiva. A grille, emblems and lights is hardly a big deal, especially if they're cheap.

As Brian hit... Headlights, tail lights, the fun top... And the optional kits/hood...

Check out my gallery at Pimptiva.com; you'll get the idea that I converted everything I could get my hands on over... I looked for a RHD front end to do the swap... But it was way too expensive to mess with.

I think I can do without the fun top. How much would you expect to pay for 121 headlights, taillights and grille?

FMS was carrying the stuff... I know that in talking to Roger this week about my hood, he said they may not be carrying them anymore.

When I got my kit, I got a new grill witha set of used headlights and corner lights for $450. The tail lights I picked up were new and ran me $200 I believe.

If you found someone over there (I know we have a few overseas members), you can pickup the stuff from a wrecked car for cheaper than that, aside from the shipping costs that you'd have.

As for the fun top... I know Roger said he had several of the spoiler kits that fit them. I wasn't too interested when I had my ragtop. But I know that there have been several Festiva ragtop finds in the junkyard (which is where mine came from) - You can get a brand new one that would fit in, with electric roll back option for $400 or so if you look around. I know www.streetbeatcustoms.com has some decent prices and tons of sizes, fabrics, etc to chose from.

I know the grill is expensive to ship because of its size ( it is as wide as the front end, the corner lights are in the grill). I have tried to get another one. The tailights I have seen FMS sell for $50 used on Ebay. The funtop was just an option.

I just picked one up on E-bay for 15 Euros... but Brian is right the shipping was a killer... 55 Euros

Anyways, there is now a Mazda 121 grille on its way to mate with the headlights and corner lights I already have.

Where was the Mazda 121 sold? All of Europe or just some countries? What about the UK? I'm wondering if I can contact a salvage yard over there to get the parts.

I see them on Ebay Germany and Ebay Austrailia. I am sure they are sold in other parts of Europe too.
