  • Rear disc swap whats a good donor?

ok im lookign to do a rear disc swap on my car in the future and i want to start gathering parts but im not sure what car to look for the parts from. i plan on doing the aspire swap so i want to have the same bolt patern as the aspire, i was thinking capri disc but thats not the right bolt patern corect? what about escort gt? any other ideas?

    Thanks
    Rick

Escort Gt is 4x100. There was/is a write up somewhere about making a braket to fit. I think someone also swapped the whole rear subframe from a capri to get independent rear suspension. Wish you asked me last year I had a EGT that I was parting out you could of scavenged as much as you needed.

thatnks for the article Gomez the only thing about that artilcle i dont like is making that plate i have no idea how to measure it and fabricate it. i was thinking of just pulling a complete rear hub assembly off a donor like a capri, egt, or MX3 and bolting it to the rear beam.

^^^ problem with that is that you'd have to do some extensive modifications to the rear beam to be able to bolt any of those hubs up. None of those cars had a one peice trailing arm type suspension like the festiva uses, so all the mounting and bolting points are quite different.
          No festiva for me ATM...

It sounds like you want to do the rear disc swap while keeping the fronts the aspire brakes? Another issue you would face if trying to do that is the master cylinder/proportioning valve question brought up in that other thread.

of course, when i looked at some escorts in the yard once, i noticed that the calipers on the front seemed to be the same as the front auto aspire calipers. if this were the case you would be displacing the same amount of fluid and the proportioning valve should still work, because you'd have the same caliper as the escort setup its just on a slightly smaller rotor... does that make sense?

With my aspire swap my fronts lock up lightning fast, but i can't lock my rears up ever. They are working, and they will lock up with the e-brake some, but their not working quite right so i'd be interested in this swap as well maybe. 4 wheel disc's would be awesome!

Like EVO said ..maybe on a small car .

Installing 4 piston disc on the back of my S-10 was the best and safest upgrades I did .
