  • New tires wearing bad and quick!

ok so i put on some 14's about a month and a half ago with some falken zeiex 185/65-14 tires. I changed the front struts out about 3 weeks ago, and noticed exessive tire wear on the outer edge, and i think its the camber way off. How do i fix it? In a stock configuration is it adjustable? or can i out some spacers unter the strut mount or something? thanks for the help -Justin

by any chance did you accidentally get aspire struts? Aspire struts raise the car 2" and throw off the camber.

I think you can correct it with camber bolts, but i have no experience with them.

No i got struts for a festiva, Monroe sensa-Trac 71818. It did raise it about 1'', I think because the others we shot. The old ones had no pressure in them at all, if you puilled the arm out it would just freefall back into the shock body.

Stefan - aspire front struts are the same as festiva front struts, only the rear's are different.

tbird, take it to a shop and get it aligned, that should fix it... a front end alignment around here is $35, if your camber is off so much as to need camber bolts something is wrong, but you can go that route if you need to.

You can buy adjustable camber bolts for the car to correct the alignment. Check Rockauto.com for them.

NO NO NO, when you changed your tire/rim combo, your TOE changed with them. that's why your tires are wearing so quickly. if it was just camber, you wouln't notice it yet... i do alignments all day, trust me.

              btw, you need an alignment.

hmmm... how does toe change with a tire/rim swap.... answer; it doesn't. C'mon FestYboy, where'd you get that from? I do agree, however, that your toe setting is off. Excessive toe-in will cause accelerated wear on the outside shoulder of the tire. Camber rarely causes wear issues. Camber primarily affects pull. It will pull to the side with the most positive camber (outward lean). Caster affects returnability (steering wheel returning to center by itself). Total toe affects tire wear, primarily at the shoulders, and individual toe affects clear-vision (steering wheel being straight and level).

well here's my story on that... purchaced wheels and tires for Scrappy and had them installed (along with FMS's KYB and spring kit)... 3 mos later the tires are wearing badly on the inside. alignment was done before the install. had to redo the align becaust the toe was so bad. never had any issues from the 12 tires.

sorry, now that i see what i wrote, i'm an idiot... what DID change the toe was the suspention drop, not the tire change. (very sleepy at the moment...zzzZZZZZ)
