  • changing to a different steering knuckle

We all know what a pain it is to put new rotors on, or replace the bearings in the front wheels. Is there any mod to be done so you can just slide the rotor off, and not need to find one of the 21 spacers needed to set the preload for the front bearings?

I may end up doing the aspire swap if I have to, but I would like to lose the bearing setup as well. One of my attractions to baby car is that it is soooo easy to work on, EXCEPT for this one spot! So the ultimate is to lose the whole dang knuckle!

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

aspire swap still has the goofy bearing setup that "needs" the shims.

Check out the Aspire/Rio knuckle comparison thread:

Although the Rio knuckle may have the same goofy bearing setup.

That goofy bearing setup lasts a couple hundred thousand mi. The grease probly degrades after 10-15 years though. I think it is time more than design.
              it runs so sweet
