getting ready to do my aspire swap and had a few questions. do i have to use the aspire rubber brakes lines front and rear or can i use the festiva rubber brake lines? also what year of escort gt do i get the tie rod ends from because they are a lot cheaper than new aspire ones. thanks

the tie rod ends come off of 91-96 egt's and yes you can use the festiva front rubber brake hoses.

You can use the festiva rubber hose if you snip off the little hook thing. You'll see what i'm talking about when you do it.

It's basically an alignment peg for the banjo brake line fitting. I'd go the easier route and just swap the line out for the aspire front lines, the rears i can't remember what rubber lines i used, i think it was festiva, but i could be wrong.

you don't even need to snip off the hook you just gotta put it on so the hook hangs off the side of the caliper rather than interfere.

did the gt escorts have the 1.9 or 1.8L motors in them? im looking up parts on the autozone website just for an idea and it didnt ask me if it was gt or not it asked me what motor it had.

According to Rockauto, outer tie rod end, Spicer Professional Grade, is the same for base and GT Escorts in '93. This should hold through that body style range. Just check it to make sure.

Spicer's "service grade" end is less than six bucks! Their PG is $38.79 each.

I'd go better than the el cheapo part! Check Autozone to see what choices they have. I recall at least two. I got the better one, and IIRC it was under $30 each. Also, some Escort tie rod ends are supposed to have grease fittings, if you like that feature.

                  So check around.

i got all my stuff and im ready to do the swap now but ran into a roadblock. the one strut bolt on the apspire axle was frozen when we pulled it from the yard so i tried to get it loose today. heated up the nut end as best as i could and ended up breaking the nut free from the axle. so tomorro im heading up to the welding shop my brother works and and getting it all fixed. not a huge problem but just something to slow down the process.

when i did my aspire swap, those lower rear strut bolts gave me a huge headache

                      Good luck with your swap!!

yeah I think those nuts are a pain for everyone so if thats your only bump in the road thus far you arn't doing bad.

got the fronts all done today but found out i need lower control arms so i ordered those. my balljoints are shot. so once i get those in im headed straight to get an alignment done. doing the rear tomorro. got the frozen bolt out and welded the nut back to the axle so i hope the threads arent messed up or ill have to think of something else to do.

got the rear switched today and everything done but bleeding the brakes. did the whole one man bleeder thing but its not to where i like it so im gonna wait till someone else can help me bleed them. thats the best way to get them bled in my opinion. also since i had the rear apart to replace the rear struts i switched out my ribbed taillights for some smooth ones. i like the look so much better. i was suprised how much higher my car sits now too but i dont mind the ground clearance

you can get lowering springs from FMS and that will bring it back down, I've also heard you can cut one full round out of the aspire spring and that will bring it back down.
