Need info on rear suspension/brake of several cars

Well I'm trying to put some rear discs on my aspire axle beam without using anything not factory if you know what I mean. What I'm looking for is something to put in the 4 holes in the axle beam. I looked a lot on google but can't seem to find exactly what I was looking for.

I step upon some Focus SVT knuckle that would certainly fit but the bolt patern doesn't fit my wheels because of the stupid 4x108mm that Ford uses. So maybe with a different hub but that would be a real pain to find.

I heard that some 121 came with rear disc brakes but I think that's untrue since I can't find anything about it.

I tought about going with the Escort GT but the suspension doesn't fit with the axle beam.

So I tought about the Capri XR2 and the 323 GT (not GTX since it's AWD) but in Canada we didn't had any XR2 and almost none 323 GT.

So what do you think? And if possible, if someone could snap some pics of both the XR2 rear suspension/brake and 323 GT that would be great.

I'm sorry to tell you but I dont think this is going to be successful with out doing custom work.
The Xr2 is IRS, IIRC the 323 gt is also as the bf chassis was the template for the xr2.
The Bg chassis EGT is also IRS.

Are you also getting a proportioning valve to go with the added braking force the rears will now have?

i was just thinking of that brake swap today, any one heard if that works good, the brake ballance is good, if you need to change the master cylinder or any other things?

He said he only wanted to sell it as the full package deal, and if that's the case, I'm all in. I don't really want to have a set of Aspire drums machined down into bare hubs. Although I admit it's a small price to pay for rear disks on my Festy.

Yeah I remember that thread too, but that's not what I'm looking for, so my best bet would still be the Focus SVT/ST knuckle and find a way to put a hub with 4x110 or 4x114 on it, maybe with a machine shop.

Do you mean that the Focus' spindle will bolt on the Festiva axle? If it does, go ahead and do it!!! It's pretty easy to have the Focus hub redrilled to 4x100 by a machine shop (they'll drill between the original holes probably) and then you just press in new studs. Thing is, you'll have to figure out what proportioning valve and master cylinder to use to retain a good front to rear ratio and pedal travel and effort...

The 2008 Focus has aluminum front brake calipers. Saw it in an ad.

We still don't know for sure that a Focus knuckle or hub will bolt to the Aspire parts. Where's the evidence?

Okay, has anyone checked out the old Mopar FWD cars. They had similar rear axles and some came with rear discs. They were also somewhat based upon (IIRC) VW designs, and the early ones were 4 X 100mm.

For example, the Omni GLH and some K-cars. Up to around '85 for the 4 bolts.

aside from looks, why does everyone push for disk brakes in the rear? drums work perfectly fine for the job they're intended and there's less of a worry about F/R bias if you keep close to the same size wheel cylinder. personaly i'd be very happy with a drum upgrade a touch larger than the aspire one we're so familiar with, say one out of a newer Rio or 8 year old Sentra. (a little more rear bias would be nice) and i'd LOVE to get my hands on a set of 15 or 16" Sentra alloys as they have the same bolt patern as the festy and are very light for their size.

I totally agree, the rear only does about 20% of the stopping while the front takes care of the other 80%, I however think the aspire drums are more than big enough, anything bigger is just gonna be unecessary rotating mass, these cars are so light and nimble anything larger than aspire breaks is just overkill.

Well, I'm not sure yet, I'll have to go to my dealer Ford ask for the parts to compare, but it looks really similar, but I don't know if the size is right, I'll probably check it out this week or next week, since my Contour is in need of an oil change. I'll let you know what I'll find out.

And it's ounly for the look, I just hate drums :wink:

Well bad news, it doesn't fit. The holes are really too far appart, both in lentgh and width.

But I think that I'll use this option anyway, I just have to find a machine shop to make me an adaptor between the knuckle and the rear axle beam and to re-drill some holes into the hub to fit my bolt pattern. I'll give you some news when I'll be done.
