4wheel disc brakes
ive been interested in this too for quite some time, all i remember was you had to have the aspire brakes for it to likely work which is why it caught my attention...
i think once i get back to work (been laid off due to slow business for 2 weeks now) in a few weeks and cash starts coming back in i might give this a try and do a good writeup on it for anyone else interested in it.
if i remember right it would have included mostly changing spindles/bearings, and adding in the mounts for the calipers. that may require welding depending on how different and far off the difference between the aspire/festiva rear axles are from the EGT parts...
anyone else remember much about what was come up with for ideas on this?1992 Festiva... BP-T, Escort G5MR, no crossmember, aspire brakes, Megasquirt, Toyota COP's, coilovers and 6 puck SPEC clutch!

Stevo created a bracket for the brakes to attach to... He was also running into a lot of questions with the brake line sizes and master cylinder.
And I actually saw him bidding on a rebuilt 323 head that I was looking at on EBay and sent him a message. He's been busy working on his carbed turbo project and from what he said, it was completed but he couldn't get traction in any of the gears. He said that he was going to CRAZY measures to get the traction he needed... Whatever that meant, I'm sure it's going to be something original...

hmm
gotta give that guy a round of applause for the carbd turbo setup
that stuff is nuts, carbs confuse me to no end... sure i can run wires and fuel injection and ecm's and throttle bodies, but vacuum hoses scare me
i think when running into 4w disc setups it may be wise to upgrade master cylinders, give some extra juice to those calipers... how big of a mc can be run though without putting too much stress on the booster?
aspire boosters are a hair bigger if i remember right, that with an aspire mc would help this pretty well, or possibly an egt mc if it would fit onto an aspire booster.
custom brackets shouldnt be too hard to weld up, just gotta make em sturdy enough... VERY sturdy. my only question would be do the 4 bolt holes that hold the aspire/festy spindle onto the axle assy line up with those off the egt?
maybe this would also help to push the wheel outward if its longer and help with clearance between rims and the axle, although this may cause fender clearance issues, trimming would be an easy fix, also running wheels with a smaller offset would be easier on bearings.1992 Festiva... Master cyl.
Going off of street rod and muscle car knowledge.
disc/disc or drum/drum combo's use a master cyl that has equal volume and pressure front to rear
disc/drum combos use higher volume and lower pressure on the disc side
Basically use a master cyl designed for the system your using

so then the egt master will have to be used. how about jsut using a brake pressure adjuster thingy... i remember someone was using one on an aspire on the old board if im right... or at least they were talking about it...1992 Festiva... He's been hanging out on the GRM boards a bit. I wanted his 13" Minilite knockoffs soooooo bad it hurt.As I was perfectly drifting past the apex Joey48442 looked at me and yelled "You know, I have never been in a rollover accident before!"... it all went downhill from there.

I really don't have the expertise to judge too well, but from what all I've read here, rear discs wouldn't be too much of an upgrade. Just easier to service and an additional "cool factor."
I don't plan on it ever. I'm happy enough with the Aspire drums giving me a very useful parking brake.
FWIW, I've seen (through the wheel slots) the rear drums on a Neon, and the Aspire drums were equal to or greater in diameter. Not too shabby, IMO, to have drums sized large enough for a 2400+ pound car on my Festiva!
For those with over 160 hp and large footprint tires, the rear discs might be worth it. Especially for racers, who have to change pads more often.
Just my "semi-educated" take on this. I'd still love to see someone put up pics of rear discs, just for that "cool factor!"
