  • rims and tires

i have a 90 festiva with them stupid and ugly 12" stock rims and tires. i would like to get something that looks better. i don't think there is anything available in 12". i see that a lot of you put larger rims on your cars. i know this question has been asked many times but I'm not a mechanic, and don't have the know how or tools to do a lot of modifications to my car, but are there any rims that would bolt up to a festiva without doing any, or minimal modifications so the tires and rims would fit. if so, what rims would fit and what size tires could i put on and not have any clearance problems,( i.e. rubbing or steering problems.) I'm not looking to go to big, 13" would be fine. i know i might sound dumb but could you please help a dummy out. thanks.

changing the wheels is one of the easiest things you can do. If you want the minimal effort required, get some 13" wheels and tires and bring em to any place that sells tires and have them mount them. They will charge $20-50 for this. Free if you buy the tires from them.

Check the wheel list for wheels that will replace the festiva wheels.

Look at the sticky post at the top of this category. There is a wheel list. Print it out and go to the junkyard and find a car on the list with 13 or 14 inch wheels and you may even get lucky and find a set with good tires.

        thanks for the info

thanks for the info about the rims. i found the list but I'm still confused. what do all the numbers mean? 98mm-100mm-4in-4.25in-108mm-110mm-4.5in-120mm. like i said your dealing with a real dummy when it comes to rims. can someone please clarify please.

          That is the bolt circle.

          from tirerack.com:

The bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns can be 4, 5, 6, or 8 lug holes. A bolt circle of 4x100 would indicate a 4 lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 100mm.

The festive bolt circle is 114.3 mm or 4.5 inches and obviously has 4 lugs.

Depends on the "13." Here's a quick guide:

175/60-13 is stock ride height. Same as the 145/80-12s or 165/70-12s.

185/60-13 would be exactly 6mm taller.

You can't put 12" tires onto 13" tires, sorry, but if you want to sell the tires, I would be interested if they are new

i get no rubbing while turning at all! the front is with two coils cut off the springs and the rears are an aspire strut and full festy spring (with a 150lb mdf sub box in the trunk too though)

i need to get a firmer strut in the back, i live in the country on some rough roads and over a big bump cuz ive got so much weight in the back it does hit the fenders, im eventually gunna solve this with a set of brackets that when cranked on will push the fenders out about a quarter of an inch fixing the problem. basically a tiny adjustable strut bar in each wheelwell ...

or you could just go with a 6" wide rim and/or different offset... i have no clue what mine is...
