If you run Aero, Diamond or other steel race wheels then you have probably
had problems with properly balancing them. They are supposed to be balanced
by the machined lug holes instead of the imperfect stamped center hole.
Discount Tire has adapters for large truck rims but none in smaller bolt patterns.
So I made my own. All I needed was a lathe an old brake drum and a little time.
I took my time and got real precise it has a .003 in tolerance in all directions.
Started by cutting off the pad surface then the bearing carrier. Bored the center
hole to about 2.25" dia and chamfered the egde for and smooth fit on the balance
machine. Just bolt it to the wheel using stock lug bolts (could add studs) and
balance away. The guys at the tire shop say it works excellent and I have no more
bouncing issues from 0 -> top speed.
It could be a little prettier but I didn't have a sandblaster handy. I spray painted
the front and outside edges since machining exposed alot of bare metal.
Tell me what you think, I went ahead and made an extra while I was in the shop and
am considering doing a small run of them if there is interest. - Chris
