  • break Swap parts question

Does anyone have a handy picture list of the parts needed?

I'm still at novice at fixing cars and can't place names with faces to well when it comes to the parts.

      tsk tsk, such a naysayer.

but thank you for the advice anyway.

        Find an Aspire.

Remove the front parts by unbolting the strut mounts at the top of the strut towers, the brake hoses (either at the caliper or the brake lines), the ball joint/control arms (pinch bolt), and the tie rod ends (the castle nuts).

Oh yeah, remove the wheel nuts before anything else. You may need someone to press on the brake pedal so the axle won't move. Also a 29mm or 1 and 1/8" socket, a 2' breaker bar, and a cheater bar at least 3 feet long.

On each side your removed assembly will be:

-strut, spring, and mount, knuckle/hub, caliper and rotor.

Buy new Aspire or Escort tie rod ends and preferably, new rotors for your install.

Remove the rear axle assembly by unbolting the brake hoses, the emergency brake cable, the shock mount nuts (under the rear plastic coverings) and the trailing arm to body bolts. Your assembly will be:

-rear axle beam with shocks, springs & rubber bump stops (springs & stops will be loose), and drum brakes.

New brake hoses all round would probably be good, too. Turn in the old calipers for rebuilt ones will make things nicer and easier.

You might remove the Aspire e-brake cable, maybe not.

        Hope this helps.

          thanks SG.

I ended with a yard pulling the spindles and back axle since they insist on pulling and they were the only one had an aspire, or would answer the phone.

damn, I just realized I forgot to ask if they had a Fes hood.

Careful about attaching that hood to the suspension. It could look funny going over bumps!
