First, i'd take the strut assembly out.. then, I'd take at least 3/16" steel plating cut in applicable squares and weld it top and bottom.. and then grind as necessary and reinstall.

Question: When you say fire, are you meaning arc or oxy/acet?

Assuming you mean MIG or TIG by electrical welding - if you find an experienced welder they could weld up the cracks and grind the weld back down smooth and it would probably stop it from getting worse.
The metal there is not so thin that I'd worry too much about blowing it out while welding unless the person trying to do it is completely inexperienced. Definitely pull the struts out before you weld it though.

find a welder to just use a mig on it. It won't blow through.Ian Carr

Thanks for your help so far, but mig weld was what I called electrical, and fire is the gas type. The welder is insisting that the gas weld is better because the mig will burn through ,but I beg to differ, I think the mig is stronger and I would like to use stiffer springs, so I don't want to revisit that spot again.
By the way any ideas as to why the mount burst in the first place because that was the way I got it from my father.JAMAICA TO THE WORLD
