  • Tempo Control arms?

    I am looking for a little more track width on my aspire so I can use the right axles, and I was wondering if anyone has messed with Control arms from a ford tempo? They run the same style LCA's as the festiva/aspire and I can get new ones from rockauto for $17 plus shipping. And they have grease fittings!

    Lemme know what you guys think.

    For $17 just order one and see. What's RA's return policy?

    Or get one at your local AZ or Advance, etc. You could take it back, I'm sure, and there's no shipping.

    Or just pull one at the JY. Return within 30 days, most likely.

    Sounds like an interesting idea. I didn't think they'd be the same style control arm. I'll have to look at a Tempo/Topaz suspension next time I see one.

    I'm mainly Jonesing to see an early year Kia Rio though, and see what I can use.

      So it would be a little custom, and seeing how most of us have to open up the frame to get to the nut that has broken free its weld when we change our LCA's anyway...

      I may look into this further.

      The festiva/aspire arm is straight where it attaches to the unibody...

        It would be easier to figure out the axle issue. The control arms are only part of the problem. You also have to look at the top of the strut where it attaches to the body. It also will need to be moved out.

            BP and G-series trans. I really want to use EGT Hubs so I can use the EGT brake calipers AND rotors. I am thinking the RIO isn't that much wider than the aspire so I may need the Tempo ones. The strut tops are all the way in according to the body, so those could come out, and then a camber kit for the rest I am thinking.

              My girl friend just picked up a 93 tempo with 57,000 miles, if you need any rough measurements let me know.

                    center of frame bolt to center of ball joint 12"
                    center of ball joint to center of strut hole 3.5"

                    I put new axles in it along with inner / outter tie rods, they used the same parts as an escort so you may look inot escort lower control arms as another option.

                          I measured the control arms they seem to be the same length from the center of the pivot bolt to the center of the ball joint. dang I was hoping.
