  • Brake upgrades. aspire? capri? something else?

hey all i have just purchased a complete capir parts car. is equipped with a B6T and was wanting to know if i could use the brake setup of it on my festy and what is interchangeable and such. ive already got all the parts sitting there if they are useable just thought id ask in what combination they would be compatible... also what rear swap is possible and still retain the 4x114.3 stud pattern???

    Cheers from a newbie

You really need to add your location in your profile. In another post you mention Australia. This makes a HUGE difference in what people will recommend to you.

    Please add it.

yeah im in australia but we have the majority of the things that you have just rebadged. the escort GT is a Laser TX3 over here and the 323 is a familiar import... and we have the aspires, capri's and all the same just different names but yeah fair call will put it in profile

I'm watching this thread develop, I'm planning on upgrading my Festiva wheels at some point to 15 inch (or possibly 16's but I fear this will require such a low profile tyre that the ride will be too rough?) and fitting some bigger discs & calipers in there. Maybe new but most likely 2nd hand.

capri brakes will fit with the use of an aspire LCA. retains the stock bolt pattern also.....15's are about the biggest i would go on a festiva. Even though i think they look to big IMHO.

Does the Capri brake swap with Aspire LCA's require Aspire axles too?

All depends on what you want the car for. I like 185/60x14s on aluminum wheelsfor a good compromise of handling and comfort. Others go with 195/45x13 for more sport and ligther weight.

Tricky question to answer because I have a few applications for my car, 1 of which will seem utterly crazy, allow me to explain...

For work purposes I'm looking at getting a 7x4 Galvanized (or maybe aluminum to keep weight down) box trailer with custom cage. The festy is rated (apparently) to carry 750KG. Empty it's probably going to be 200-250KG (500lbs) and since I'm mostly just moving pot plants its unlikely to ever go much over 350-400KG (~820lbs) total. I live on a steep hill so I'm scared to attach anything to my festiva until I upgrade the brakes as mine are totally stock but not even "good stock" they need help so I figured it's best to totally upgrade them at the same time. I am also conscious of rotating unsprung weight the importance of not adding too much so I figure the Aspire (known in Australia as WB Festiva) would be the way to go. I heard somewhere that "Auto Aspires" use a thicker caliper? So this would mean extra weight? I'm assuming therefore I would rather find brakes from a manual?

Towing aside as this is something I'll only due on rare occasion, I have ultimate plans on a B6T transplant with some basic mods (improving intake, exhaust, possibly larger intercooler, fuel pump etc) and not sure if these same Aspire brakes will still be up to that task. I'm getting ahead of myself a little now though.

I'm probably interested in a compromise like yours, comfort/handling. It's just that sourcing good 14" wheels are harder than 15's here in Australia and as a result tend to be no cheaper, often more expensive. But probably 14's or 15's is what I'll go with.

It currently runs 165/70/13 (as far as I know this was stock in Australia) - handling is pretty lacklustre at present.

does a 93 capri and a 93 festiva have the same bolt pattern?
I also want to upgrade to the aspire rear beam

yes both are 4x114.3 bolt pattern.
you can use the aspire beam with the stock festy drum brakes to retain the bolt pattern all around
