Has anybody ever removed a section of a wheel on a lathe and then welded it back together? Like to make a 7" wheel into a 5.5 or 6". I bought some 16"x7" wheels to raise my woods buggy Festiva but I'll have to use spacers to clear the frame. Thanks in advance.

I've heard in the old days people would widen steel wheels that way, but I have no idea how difficult it would be or who would do it "in reverse."

It would probably be cheaper to get some new wheels. Something you might want to look for may be spare tires that are designed to fit a vehicle with 16" wheels. Sometimes they are narrow, but still 16" to clear the brakes.
