  • Aspire caliper diameter?

Has anyone of you yet measured the Aspire caliper pistonīs diameter?
I tried the search and google without any useable result.
Could someone takeout his dial caliper and have the piston measured for me? youīd do me a big favor.

I want to put together a list of available brakes for the festiva including their dimensions.

    thanks in advance!

I just went out and measured, but here are the caveats:

    -cheap HF dial calipers
-I don't have a lot of experience with calipers (practically none)
-I'm measuring a rebuilt, never installed Aspire caliper and the piston is fully retracted so it's a bit hard to measure into the rubber seal, though I think I did it right and got a good lock

I'm getting 105mm. Plus, the rotating hands (like on a clock) have the black one at the top (+ one click) and the red one (MM) is .82.

The sliding scale on the long piece reads 105mm.

If you have any advice for me on how to better do this, lemme know!

First of all, big thanks Karl!

Sometimes itīs a challenge to get proper readings from a caliper dial .
When I measured the 121DB Calipers I accidentally hit the metr.-> in. conversion button and
got several "wrong" results. YT sports some nice tutorials about using any dial caliper type http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...tegory=0&page=

105mm seems a bit wide to me. Otherwise this would explain the vast stopping improvement the aspire swap is known for

The 121DB pistons I have here were 51,04 mm in diameter, your results should be around that somewhere.
What I want to know is wheter the 121DB has the same calipers as the Aspire or not. The cast in numbers arenīt the same and rockauto does not show any interchangeabilty hints, so I depend on your info since we didnīt get the Aspire in germany.
Whilst I research that I want to start a list featuring the brakes I have here that could be continued by the forum.

      have a nice day!

I think your 2nd or 3rd Gen Mazda 121's are the same parts as the Aspire. Check your early Mazda 121's that changed body style right after the one's that look like the Festiva. I believe it's your Gen 2, but I am not positive. You can have a Mazda to Mazda upgrade you lucky dog. LOL

Karl, Did you "zero it out" before you started? That means close the dial caliper jaws tight together and make sure it reads "0" before you start your measurement.
          You gonna race that thing?

            @ Kartracer.
I suspect the same but i want to be 100% sure since the cast numbers on the 121DB (2nd gen) are different from the aspireīs.

Okay I figured out what I did wrong. I looked at the wrong nummers.

Looking instead at the inside of the caliper scale, I got just under 51mm, like you said I probably would.

If you want close-up pics of my Aspire caliper or anything, just say so and I'll see what I can do.

It does appear that these may be the same measurement, at least at the piston diameter.

Festy46, my measuring calipers were indeed zeroed.

                Thatīs great, Karl! thanks again.
So the pistons really could be the same.

I measured approx 121,00mm center to center of the DB caliperīs mounting holes.
The DA/festies caliper mounting holes have approx.105,68mm from center to center.

one thing that bothers me is the change in wheel bolt pattern. I have loads of 4*114,3mm wheels and no benefit fom changing to 4*100mm. Best solution would be a hub that has festiva spline count and bolt pattern AND accepts Aspire rotors...
