  • Need some Rims!

Hey guys, i am lookin to upgrade from my stock rims, but on a small budget, anybody know what size limitations i have or where i could look for somthing with a bit of a dish to it? i'd like to fill my wheel wells a bit and get a better tire for in the winter.

any help would be much appreciated.

honda accord rims fit up to 15 inch which will scrape the front a little but 14s will be fine from a hionda accord

Yep, if you're not Aspire-swapping, then look mainly at Accords. I believe Escort GT wheels and Tracer wheels also fit the bill. If you are, look to Miata's, VW's, and various other Honda/Acura products.

        awesome guys thanks!

might be an obvious question, but the 14's would have to be low profile tires for sure wouldn't they? i gotta wrap all seasons on whatever i get, i just wanna find somthing a little more stylish then the stock 4 inch wide tonka wheels

Yes, as you increase wheel diameter, you have to decrease tire overall diameter to keep the speedometer calibrated. Couple things to keep in mind with larger tires though. With 14" tires, you're pretty much either going to end up with a 195/45-14 tire, or a 186/60-14 tire. That's an improvement from the OEM either way... the former are tougher to find, and more expensive. The latter are Miata spec tires, and easy to find in every category of tire. The 195/45's are closer to OEM wheel and tire diameter, so they are more accurate for speedometerial purposes. However, I share concerns with other board members as to the ability of stock Festiva brakes to effectively stop such heavier wheels in emergency and autocross/track settings. Others express a dislike for wider tires for fuel economy reasons. They will also increase your turning radius a little bit.

However, I think the benefits of wider tires trump those two disadvantages. Larger brakes can be solved via a lot of means that are well documented on the boards. The sheer amount of traction for such a small little rollerskate with wide tires is awesome. I can barely even spin the tires on my stock B3 and balding 185's. The autocross folks with 215's must be GLUED to the road. The effect of adding 20-40mm (you may have 145's or 165's) is profound in improving your contact patch and decreasing your stopping distances.

Lots to think about, but I'd support the decision 99 times out of 100. 12's are getting harder and harder to find, and you're limited in terms of performance tires. Even 13's are more restricted than they used to be.

thanks for the awesome response dude!

the traction is deffinitly one of the things i'm interested in, it's just a commuter/daily driver car, and for drivin to and from university on weekends (45 minute drive) i'd like to have a better grip on the road, specially once winter hits.

Well, I'm about 95% sure you won't find 195/45-14 snow tires. However, in 185/60-14, you can find snow tires from big names like Firestone, Pirelli, Michelin, and Dunlop.

I had these on my festy for a while. They have rally tires on them and fit without rubbing on the front but needed a spacer on the back. They were much heavier and you could really feel it but the grip was ridiculous, I loved it.

Ah yes, I should have mentioned that. If you're going 14's with 185/60's, you're going to either need rear wheel spacers or Aspire rear struts. Do some forum searching for that and you'll find the information you need to know. There are lots of wheel and tire fitment threads that can be of great use.

Those are 4x100 so they would only work if you had an Aspire brake swap.

Well it's a bit complicated on how I got them. I got them as a package when I bought a Festiva, A Festiva Shell, and a 323 GT. I also got a bunch of rims and parts, etc.

But these are off of the 323 GT. They are 14" The rally tires were on them when I got them. I don't have much use for them and plan on putting some street tires.
