It seems I'm always on the lookout for the smaller diameter weird sized tires we need on our cars. The Toyo Proxes 195/45-14s are now over $100 each and I'm looking around. Tires-easy.com has a lot of the unusual sizes and one of them is 185/55-14. These would not be right at our stock ride height, but my math calculations indicate they'd be only about 14 mm higher. That's about what 165/70-13s are at. Decidedly lower than either 185/60-14 or 175/70-13.
Tires-easy has two brands in that size: Federal and Marangoni. I googled Marangoni and the company got good reviews in several car forums. It seems they're into the high performance market in Europe, and VW puts them on their Italian market cars.
At only $54.10 apiece, they're six bucks cheaper than the Federal SS-595s. Both are summer tires. Let's see if this link works:
This spring I'll be on the market to put rubber on my Miata solid spokes. I really wanted Proxes, but the price may be "too much." We'll see.
Comments? What has anyone paid for the Proxes in the past month or so? Has anyone heard anything about Marangoni or Federal tires?
Karl
