So I pulled off the shocks from my 97 4 door spire today. I am planning on putting them on my 91 stiva and have a couple questions. Should I leave the springs the stock height or should I cut them 1 1/2 coils. I want to put some 15 x 6 honda accord wheels under it. I have some 13" american racing wheels on now but bigger is always better. Just curious, let me know what you think I should do.

I've done two Aspire swaps and I cut my Aspire springs one coil each. That appears to me to give approximate stock ride height.
FYI, front springs were measured at ten pounds stiffer each over Festiva springs, and the rear springs appeared to be the same. This set was from an under 100K mile 1996 Aspire, compared with an over 120K mile 1989 Festiva set. Not statistically objective at all, but something to go on.

I would mount them on the car first, with the tire/rim combo on too.
Then see how it sits, then decide how much ...
to cut, or not to cut..that is the question! (borrowed from shagspeare!)
Its not hard, once they are changed, and with freshly installed bolts, I can change out a pair of struts in about 15 minutes.Last edited by drddan; 01-19-2011, 09:47 AM.Dan

I put mine on without cutting....... raised the car up about 1.5" on all 4 corners...... now I'm rocking my 14" rims with no rubbing
The front was much easier to do than the rears........... but all in all its not too hard of a swap....... Even easier if you know someone with a lift like I doLast edited by hckrphil; 01-19-2011, 12:20 PM.

Console, It wasnt actually out of a Escort GT, just a regular escort. I did the map light swap as well. Definitely not a beginner swap. I had a lot of issues getting the shifter hole to line up, had to totally mutilate the original center console. Definitely glad I did the swap though, just finishes it off way better.Ford Fester
