  • CV joints/axle on a upgraded motor

Can the Festiva CV joints/axles hold up to a turbo, or do they break easy under high torque? May be weird to ask that question but I had concerns, I dont want mine breaking if I get on it "accelerator." I just wanted to try to prevent it before it happens if they just can't hold up to the power.

I disintegrated two Festiva differentials, and cracked one Festiva transmission case, and my original 220,000km Festiva driveshafts still wouldn't snap. Considering their diameter, it's almost unbelieveable that they didn't break after what I put them through. Last time I had those axles in my car, I was driving the car hard enough to crack the case in about 3 runs down the drag strip... ~3500rpm clutch side-step launches on slicks!

I was wondering about the tranny too, I didnt know if it would need to be upgraded and if so does anything bolt right in and match up to the motor as far as a tranny is concerned. Thanks

There are ones (G25M-R) that match the motor but any other than the festiva will require special mount. Look for a capri xr2 or a 323 gt for the best choice in tranny and axle for the festiva.

              Would a turbo B3 really need a G25MR?

Ra, you're doing the B3, right? I'd guess about 120 to 130 hp?

No, its going port and polish and turbo on the 1.3 I think we will go with a Garret turbo and 2 inch exhaust with flowmaster 40. All rings, bearings and gaskets/mains are all being done too. The oil pump will either be modified or swaped out to high output. The project is underway, I will see if I can get some pics sometime soon. Im just worried about tranny or CV/axle probs. I dont really race the car but I wanted to be aware of any possible probs that may exist. Thanks for feedback.

I have about 130+HP in my BP car and no problems with the tranny. It all depends on how tough you are on the tranny. If you keep the stock festiva tranny then just always have a spare on hand in the garage.

Again thanks Matt, just needed some input, I wasnt sure how they hold up. Tranny's are a dime a dozen at the you pull it. I will keep what you said in mind. Hoping on getting that car back together by the end of the month. I should be pretty wild.
