  • cut springs??

Okay, so my question is how much would you guys suggest cutting the springs?

    This is my set-up:

    Stock struts/springs in front.
    Aspire struts/springs in back.
    14x6 with 185-60-14 tires.
    Aspire rear axle.
Aspire front brakes with EGT tie-rod ends.

I am going to get an alignment done once I'm all done too.

This is how much I cut off:
Front on the left, rear on the right...

This was a little much I would say... I suggest cutting 1 coil MAX 2 off the front, and 0.5 coil to 1.5 Max on the rear....

On both my Aspire swaps I cut the Aspire springs only one coil each. If you want to haul loads, I'd leave the rear springs uncut or only cut them maybe 1/2 or 3/4 coil. If you ran Festiva rear struts, I'd leave the rear Aspire springs uncut for sure if you want to haul loads. Also, if you are running larger diameter tires like 175/70-13 or 185/60-14, I'd watch cutting the rears especially, since you might get some rubbing on bumps or with folks in the rear seat.

If you want handling on a lightweight 5 speed Festiva with no back seat, I'd begin with cutting two coils off the front and one coil off the rear springs with Aspire rear struts. See how you like that and go from there.

Whats the ride like with cut springs? On the Hondas I've seen with cut springs they seem to have no give. Looks like solid suspension, back breaker.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

I would do 1.5 off the front and 1 on the rear. I would suggest cutting half a coil off at a time so you get the height right. Don't forget the springs also settle after about 5 min of driving. The difference between this and Honda cut springs is that when you upgrade to Aspire springs, the spring rate goes up so you don't bottom out as bad.

            My 2 cents

well in my opion if your gonna lower the car do it right, I installed my FMS springs and i like them alot, and it lowered them quit abit

            Before

            front

            rear

            After

            front

            rear

They have settled and are a little lower now Fairly happy with them, and i think the spring weight is ok, despite some negative reviews on here. next is a rear sway bar and a stiffer front, as well as new poly bushings up front

            Sorry to thread Jack

I would like to get some FMS springs, or even better, coilovers, but I really do not have the money for those right now. I'm going to have to work with what I already have.

I have to have aspire rear struts, or else the wheels/tires would hit the strut. I think I'm gonna go with 1.5 in front and .5 in back for now. I might get a set of extra springs to experiment with. We'll see.

              Thanks everyone for the replies.

Get various coilover kits and sell parts of them for the price of the kit, then buy good springs and get the full setup for spring price.

What kinda set up do y'all suggest for guys like me who live the low life and want to knock ants heads off going down the road, my miatas sub frame is 2.5 inches(on 16"s) off the ground and as for as speed bumps... I have to park some where's else and walk. I'm building custom rear beams for -3 camber or more. What's y'all pointers to get low
