  • 17 INCH WHEELS ON A FESTIVA?

Has anyone tried to install some 17 inch wheels on a festiva?
I was wondering if they would fit with a 205/40/17 tire on them.I know it will need to be on coilover to even try this.I think I will give it a try this weekend.Do you guys think its worth the try or will I be loosing time only?

    Thank you!

I think you may have clearance troubles installing 17" rims on your festy, but give it a try and tell us how things go. I'm interested to see the results.

i actually just tried putting 17's on mine today and i'm using a quarter inch spacer with it and on the front it actually clears but the back there will have to be some modifying i have 15's on right now (195/50R15) and they do scrub the struts and barely clear the torsion bar in the back and the 205/40R17 is actually about an inch taller so if you did modifying you could get them on

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

id reccoment coilovers with anything larger than a 15" wheel, reason being is once you get to 15" your tirewall is going to be much further out, i have coils in the rear and have maybe 3/4 inch od clearance using a 195/50r15 fuzion zr1 tire...

on the front the biggest problem you will hit will be tire height, if your tires become too tall or wide you will hit the inside back area of the fender with the inside of the tire (i tried installing some winter tires/wheels from off a junk EGT i have) just try to keep your tires outside diameter around 22" (my 15's are 22.7" i believe)

i think if you can dig up some 205/30r17's if may be possible... with the correct offset of course!

personally id go for it, and then if it doesnt work, no big deal just modify your struts by either trimming or by changing them over to an adjustable coil-style setup and make it work!

dont let the stock suspension limit you if you really want it!!! HACK THAT BAD BOY UP!

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

Putting 17's on a Festiva is like putting 22's on your Mom's Camry.

The point of these cars is to be lightweight and therefore nimble and responsive. Throwing a set of obnoxiously large wheels on would be going against everything the Festiva stands for. It would look rediculous too!

17 inch have performance gains! Being a 7+ size rim means more contact patch with the correct tire. Also you can get 17 inch under 15 pounds each so I don't see a problem their!

Just would be alot better if you could roll the fenders, or add wide fenders to get a more aggressive size fitment than just 17x7.

Fred just doesn't push the style vs function envelope.

                        Thanks

Plus we all should remember that Rim/tires are un-sprung weight and the less un-sprung weight the better. You also end up with a stiffer sidewall tire which enhances cornering ability.
