  • Caliper slider install problems

I should have bought new sliders to use in my rebuilt Aspire calipers.

It was a chore to put in my old ones. There is a little corrosion on the ends, with one particularly bad (the end groove is kinda filled in with rust).

I greased them up and did my best to put them in but it was extremely difficult for the short ones. The long ones went in comparatively easy.

Both short sliders would not fit well in the rubber covers and wanted to take the covers with them as I pushed through the caliper body.

Is there any trick to this or is the corrosion on my used sliders probably the problem?

I'm ordering new sliders (and an extra set of covers) and will redo this later.

Coat them with anti-seize when installing them.

Sort of the same as yours, the ends of mine were corroded. I used a 3" scotch-brite pad on a right angle grinder to clean up the ends. But I still had a little difficulty getting the slider through. Just work them in slow with plenty of the moly lube you shouldhave gotten with your new pads. Maybe some twisting will help.

I bought the whole brake pad kit from Pick Pro Parts online. It came with a little tube of moly lube for all the contact points. Most parts stores hav them at the cash register now.

            Thanks guys.

I ended up dropping my calipers off at the alignment shop. They should be able to get the short sliders to slide for me. From now on I buy "semi-loaded" calipers that already have them installed.

I should pick up my calipers tomorrow morning and put them on the car. Then Wedneday I should have the time and help to bleed the brakes and get Lux back on the road to her much-needed alignment.

Also, I swiped the caliper bolts off Muttstiva's Aspire brakes! That's right--I didn't have any caliper bolts!! I need to stock up on some little hardware pieces from the 'yard and Rockauto.
