  • how i built my poly bushings(warning large pics)

    all stock stuff

using the stock stuff i went to the local speed shop and found these for the lca to body

they were too log so i made a ghetto lathe with a socket driver and a drill.

the bushing out of the bag is on the left and cut one is on the right.

i didnt get a pic of the box the bushings i used for the sway bar to lca bushings but here they are

i cut the nubbin off of the end

using the drill bit to center the hole saw i resized the center bore to fit in the lca

i had to double up the collars on the lca to chassis cause they werent thick enough.

Wow I wish I had known you were undertaking this before I blew a bunch of cash on importing Australian parts! Remarkably innovative work... nicely done, bro. Now you just have to whip together some of those modified ES swaybar-chassis ones if you haven't already!

both sets were around $40... im too impatient to wait for bushings from the other side of the globe.

im still on the look out for something to make the front sway bar bushings out of

Nice job! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the swaybar-to-LCA bushings are readily available in Urethane (or at least a very similar and hard material) from MOOG as a standard replacement part. I think I got mine from O'Reiley's.

Probably some type of rubber blend. They're maketed in the "problem solver" line as an upgrade in performance and durability and reduced noise & vibration. Probably some type of Thermoplastic Rubber blend. I bought 2 pairs when I did mine. One pair was black and the other was blue....but they had the same part number and physically felt like the same material and durometer. They were considerably harder than the factory bushings and didn't fell like a standard rubber. I will say, they made a very noticable difference in handling.

I see the bag for one of the bushings has a part # on it, but do you know what car are these are for? And do you have a part number for the sway bar to LCA bushing? Great work!

Pic #10 & 11,what keeps the bushing from turning when your resizing the inner bore?

i had to hammer the socket into the center of the bushing. and hammer it out when im done. it spun a little bit so i had to adjust the cutting pressure so it wouldnt turn.

^^^ Careful with those....if you use the slotted brackets that come with them, it can allow the sway bar to move fore-n-aft during use. That will throw the caster and suspension geometry out the window. Dangerous at worst, tire eaters at best. The front sway bar on these cars is used to hold the LCAs in place. Some on here have reshaped the urethane bushing with a grinder and used them with the factory brackets. If you search the forum, you'll find detailed info about them.
