  • Stainless Steel Lines

I'm looking for a set of stainless steel lines for the Aspire brake swap that I did. Roger doesn't have any at the moment and so I picked up a regular set from the junkyard yesterday. Since there was so much talk on the Escort brakes/Aspire brakes, I also pulled an Escort brake line and it matches almost perfectly, except the diameter of the line itself is larger.

Would it have a bad effect on the Aspire brakes to have the lines be slightly bigger? I don't want to bleed my lines now and then when Roger gets the SS lines in, bleed them again for those.

The diameter of line will not affect the braking. Smaller is always better, the larger hoses will have more flex giving a spongy feel. Since this is such a small light car I don't think it will matter.

How much for the escort stainless lines?

I found them on CorkSport for $90 for the Escorts.

I just don't want to buy them and die from not being able to stop...

I appologize for my lack of knowladge but I was under the impression that the SS lines that are sold by FMS would work on the aspire break conv.?

When I did my brake swap, I found that the banjo bolt prongs were slightly different in length from the Festiva to the Aspire. So when I put on the Aspire brakes, I used the Aspire brake lines.

I'm not sure, but you might be able to bend the banjo bolt prong end to fit the Festiva SS lines to an Aspire caliper?

Don't take my word for this! I ain't no mechanic, and I didn't try it myself!!

            bent piece...

i just cut the prong off the festiva hose and welded another piece on to fit the aspire brake setup... you could do this too to ss oud jsut wana spray some cold galv on the regular weld after wards to keep rust from forming... unless youve got stuff for ss mig or tig welding...

i think i may yet too go with the ss lines, my brakes have a spongy fel to them even with the aspire brake upgrades, my gf's festy brakes are solid as a rock after i redid those, and stats with stock brakes, mine are upgraded and feel really crappy... ill have to rebleed them soon and see if thats it...

Worse comes to worse open door plant feet on ground like the flinstones y0. I am having the same opinion as matt, even if the diameter of the line is bigger it really wouldnt effect breaking as long as you make sure to completely bleed you brake system (lines/MS) of any air bubblez. If you can't wait for the FMS SS I would say go with the eskortz, I don't know if the banjo bolt has any differing physical limitations but might be worth a trip to the junk yard or autoparts store to check it out before droppin a bill on the escort SS. imo.

this is a good topic, well for me anyway knowing that Im going to be doing the aspire break swap in the very near future, Im just in the process of gathering all needed parts such as SS breaklines - aspire tierods - new bearings and rotors.. already have calip's, spindle carrierz, rear tortion assemb off a 95 assfire. w00t. possibly worth a sticky if there are more alterniatives to using the FMS SS break set.

The banjo prong is different from the Festiva to the Aspire; the Escorts is the same at the Aspires (I tested them from a junkyard car and pulled them. Like I said, the inside diameter of the line itself is larger on the Escorts brakes.

I thought the same thing, as long as it was filled/bled properly, it shouldn't have any problems... And I guess I'll have to see what I'm going to do once my lines come in as to fitting them up. Either bending them or welding on the Aspire end will be possible...

The inside diameter is not a huge ordeal, as long as its not to big(like twice the size). Once the lines are bleed its got no where to go but to the calipers. Your factory lines being rubber will expand alot, that's why the ss lines are better and that's why the larger volume lines wont make a difference once you bleed them. Its more pressure based than volume.

                  Thanks
