  • Festiva Suspention+Swaybar Update (Pedder's Suspention) PERTH

    Hello everyone,

I have recently been talking about what sway bar to install in my festiva, You obviously have the Aspire option that is slightly larger and makes a huge difference in handling ect, But i had a bit of cash to play with...

I have recently ordered and installed my custom made sway bar that i have been waiting for (2 weeks). Its a solid spring steel bar slightly larger than the aspire front bar. It has made a HUGE HUGE improvment and it has been fitted with polyurethane bushes (Front bracket+End of bar) The stiffness of the front end is "crazy stiff" and body roll is sooooo lessssss. I have matched the sway bar with "PEDDERS Sports Ryder" Coil springs + Pedders VRD shocks.

I have also fitted polyurethane bushes through the car too, There is a member on this Forum called "ELUSIVE" who has installed pedders equitment too, Such a good, well know brand, ALSO i have not experienced much understeer from this bar thats a bonus.

Also all perth member's we need a cruize!!!!

What's nice about your Festy sway bar is that (unlike n. American Aspire) it doesn't interfere with the lower rad hose and doesn't have to go over the transmission crossmember.
What are these items worth, approximately?

Pedders did not make the sway bar, but they ordered it from another company they work with, The company who made it was "SIGNATURE SWAYBARS", They are located in Victoria NSW, They have been making ONLY swaybars for 20+ Years, The Cost of the bar is around $340 considering it is a custom made solid spring steel bar painted in any colour you choose delivered to your door or to the supplyer and installed including the bushes. The Shocks and Spring's installed cost $1200...... Its sound's alot tho EVERYTHING in Western Australia is, The combo is fantastic. At high speed's 120KMPH 75MPH on a long winding road the car is dead flat, and the guy trying to keep up behind you is rolling all over the place LOL.

Pedder's USA is the same company as Pedder's AUS, I imagine the part numbers would be diff tho, Ring and ask them if they make custom bars or if they have a external body who does for them.

The Bushes at the FRONT and REAR of the bar are also a Pedders Made Product, Having this combo of thermal plastic bushes make 90% of vibration in the steering wheel dissapear and it is alot sharper and responsive at any speed.

Given that Aspire sway bars are not easy to find in most places, a $350 new unit is not too bad. And as you say the difference between OEM and what you've got (and Aspire sway bars) is night and day. Aspire rear trailing arms also have a torsion bar of sorts integral to them. That particular difference is not likely to be as noticeable to drivers as the bar at the front, however it is worth having a look at. I can take a picture if you want.

Discuss improvements to your Festiva or Aspire in the handling, braking, wheels and tires areas.

Link to the threaded rod mod. It'll help stiffen up the festy rear end and is worth adding to the aspire as well for a little extra oomph. There are spare holes there but it may result in clearance issues for wider tires.

This link is a good one. My attached photo is of a 97 Aspire beam with torsion bar built in. Notice the rubber donut on the middle of the bar. As to how effective they are is anybody's guess but for sure they're way better than nothing.
Presumably you can weld in a length of 5/8 inch concrete rebar (pretty rigid stuff) or you can go with a softer metal and do the threaded rod thing.

Is the Mako Mazda 121 bar similar to the Signature bar?

weird that Mako doesn't list a bar for the festiva but does for the 121. rear bar is only 1mm thicker than the aspire but its tempting to get one to see how they figured out the mounting. AU is killer shipping though.
