Awesome sounds like you have it all figured out, I have friends who run dtc60's with rt615k's and they perfer that over blues, Whatever feels more comfortable!!!
-
In the beginning I was concerned about too much braking power, but everything turned out fine - we simply got used to this setup. And while RT615K are DOT approved, they are not an average street tire exactly... Anyway, I am just a racing noob anywayOriginally posted by festyfreak39 View Posthow do you find them with the street tires? do you have to be extra sensitive?

how do you find them with the street tires? do you have to be extra sensitive?Originally posted by russian View PostWe are using carbotech xp8 - after one race we did not notice any wear. The idea is to save $$$ by keeping them for a while.

Russian what kind of pads are you using? that should be PLENTY of brake for what you have to use,
My theory behind braking is brake compound should correlate to tire compound, with azenis you shouldnt need more then a hawk blue.
when the miata ran ra1's i used hawk blue's and they were good, when the miata used slicks i used upgraded hardware with dtc60's. They lasted at least a weekend but thats using 13x8" hoosiers and alot more power.

As for 4 piston RX7 calipers, we are now trying to put them on an Escort GT... And looks like it would be even easier - we are reusing one of the mounting holes, only welding a bracket for the second hole... Will post pictures eventually

The car was a blast to drive! Unfortunately there were too many little stupid failures - custom fan housing rubbed a hole in the radiator, this cost us 20 minutes. Probably because of coolant in the intake the MAF has failed two hours later - another 20 minutes... Inertia switch killed the car at some point - another 10 minutes to fix... And the rear trans mount failed 40 minutes before finishOriginally posted by jemartin144 View PostCongrats! How did you guys do at the race?
Still, we finished #22nd (with 51 cars running), and that's on a HP track! We hope to do much better at Autobahn in October

Apparently they have 316mm / 12.4" rotors in some newer minis! But what would probably mean either more spacers or 16" wheels...

wagner products are junk and most places who sell them stack the rotors on edge (this is a big no-no). find some heavier OEM rotors to use (like from BMW) and you'll note that they don't warp (more thermal mass)

We did it! The brakes worked great! while Wagner brake rotors have warped out right away, we had a LOT of stopping power! And, most importantly, the calipers stayed where they shouldOriginally posted by jemartin144 View PostWow, crapcans at Road America; that should be interesting. Lots of straights for people to blow engines up on and have brakes fail at the end of. Good luck. I wish it wasn't on a monday-tuesday, so I could come watch.

As I said, with escort/aspire short&wide style of pad there is no way to _mount_ anything, you are talking welding here. As soon as you are talking welding - you are probably talking changing the fried bearings, so at this point spindle age does not matter much.Originally posted by Safety Guy View Post...I'd also prefer to mount...
With 03+ style kia spindle, chances of mounting some nicer caliper without custom welding are going up. Now it's just a question of finding a caliper which would mount either with stock 03+ mount or some kind of bracket.Last edited by russian; 08-08-2012, 10:39 AM.

I'm not looking for breaking gains so much as I'm looking to reduce unsprung weight.
I think the 9.5" diameter rotor with my current auto Aspire setup does well.
I could go for another .5" of rotor diameter, or I could go for the same auto Aspire 9.5" rotor with aluminum calipers, as long as they worked and lasted as well as iron ones.
I'd also prefer to mount this setup on '02 Rio knuckles because they are newer and would have less beating on them (from a lower miles car anyway).

I have tried to fit FC RX7 calipers onto a Festiva with capri brakes and it was a no go with my 15" o.z. wheels, but may work with my Enkeis and some spacers. The problem with the RX7 calipers is that they are just too bulky to fit behind the wheel with the amount of available fender room under a festiva.
The BF 323 crowd and Capri guys run some sort of 11.5" galant rotor iirc and an escort GT caliper iirc for huge front brakes. They then run a 1 year only 626 M/C that has a 1" piston. My friend has this setup on his GTX, I'll try to get pictures the next time I'm there.
Sorry for the sideways picture, not sure why it did that. the Capri brakes fill a 15" wheel pretty well, and don't weigh much more than a stock festiva brake setup. There are several members who have done this swap, it's easy. Not really any performance gain over an Aspire setup.Last edited by Advancedynamix; 08-07-2012, 07:47 PM.
