  • Rio brake booster swap

Allright a rio 03-05 booster fits in a festy. It bolts in without any mods to the pedals or the firewall. So is the master. its a 7/8 bore. It really looks like an escort GT one.

But the booster is bigger in size (a good 2 inches bigger in dia) . Since im swapping this in my shogun and nothing is where a normal festy stuff is (no engine/crap in the way) - maybe someone will try it on if it fits with all the stuff in the way.

Both entries are ISO bubble flares , not the standard double flare for the brake lines. No idea what a stock festy is. But the infos are out there at least.

Great info! Also, there is a certain 929 m/c that fits and is 1.0" piston. Far too much m/c for most setups on Festivas, but shogun builders may need one that big. I can't remember what year 929 it is, but it's a fairly common mod in the GTX community. Info should be on club protege.

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

A Miata booster is thinner than a Festiva one, but larger O.D. so it won't work with most hydro clutch setups. Most Miata m/c are 7/8" and work great on a Festiva, but the MS Miata master cylinder is larger, and only has 2 outlets just like a Festiva.

I wouldn't be surprised of my protege booster has the same dimensions as the miata one, if not it'd be pretty close lol

Now if'n Rio master cylinders are a direct fit for Festys that is good news for desperate folks that can't track down originals. But it sorta of sounds to me that almost anything Mazda-made will bolt on. I would have gone Aspire M/C at the time of my brake and suspension swap but that set up was quite a bit larger than what was already there. And year and half later I still have no regrets; car stops perfectly well and way better than when it had Festy brakes.

Rio master is not a direct fit ,it will not fit . Now the Rio master and booster will fit with dif brake lines .
New build on the way .

I was a bit hasty. Brake booster is the black drum behind the M/C and Aspire jobs are bigger than Festy units. But that said it sounds like lots of Mazda/Kia products are compatible when you looking to put another M/C on.

Its still great info if you luck out and get a donor car for a song. the only thing you really need not rio if you are changing everything for brake/suspension upgrade is the aspire rear beam, and you get to use yet another rio piece
