cuttin' the springs

im not going to be putting a lot of money into my festiva.

not buying the fms lowering prings for it

so.. im gonna cut my springs with the help of friends/car enthusiasts that have experience in cutting springs

good or bad? safe or not?

what do you think?

Well my friend said when he did his for his truck, he cut them from the top. That's all I know so far

I had cut stock springs on my car, the ride sucked to the point I did not want to drive it.

Civic 2 inch lowering springs. Cut 2 coils off the front and good to go.

Well there is also the shock/strut replacement.

When my bud cut his springs, he bought new shocks to fit the gap with the cut springs. He got shorter shocks so that they have travel, compaired to the stock ones

Festivas ride like crap with cut springs.
Festivas do not handle any better with cut springs.
It is literally painful to drive a Festiva with cut springs.
You can lower a Festiva on the cheap without cutting the springs, in ways that make it handle better.
I like a good-handling car with a really stiff ride, but when you have to slow down to 5 Km/h to get over a set of train tracks you normally cross at 80, something is wrong.
There's nothing inherently wrong with doing it. You'll even like that rough ride for the first 3-9 months. But it gets old really quick. I had to learn the hard way, you might too. Just don't say we didn't warn you.
