  • Aspire brake swap caliper question

    Hello all,

I'm currently running Aspire auto brakes up front on my Festiva. What advantage, if any, is there to running the Escort GT calipers in place of the Aspire ones? What year(s) EGT should I be looking at?

    Thanks

    Aspire brake swap caliper question

I always thought the EGT and aspire calipers were pretty much the same thing

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

If the bolt holes line up, the whole works attaches OK and new pads fit in then yes they are 'pretty much the same thing'. I'm guessing a proper side-by-side comparison (or a RockAuto cross reference) is in order here. I'll say this much about Aspire brakes on Festys; they last a whole pile longer than the originals, even with cheap pads.

Same pads. I wouldn't bother swapping them, but I think you lose your ability to run 13" wheels when using the Escort GT Calipers. Sasquatch is running them I believe... check with him. I think a decent set of pads and fresh rotors would be a better investment (assuming you need them).

I am running EGT calipers on my white car, you need the bolts from the EGT to hold the caliper onto the hub. You do then have to run 14" wheels then as well.

Re: Aspire brake swap caliper question

Thanks for the input gents. I was just wondering if there were any performance gains. Doesn't change things for me anyway seeing as I'm sticking with 13" wheels.

i think they are a little bit bigger piston size so they "should" be able to squeeze harder, but i dont think its much better than aspire ones... i would stick with the aspire ones and get a good set of pads in there...

Hmm.. I have a set laying here along with 14" wheels. Interesting.

I'm guessing the rotors won't fit without some fabbing though.
