  • Different thickness disc

Earlier this week I ordered new disc for my coming aspire swap and I finally got them yesterday. Today I went home for lunch and just for sherry and giggles I went out to make sure the disc were the same size at the stock disc I took off. The breaking surface is thicker and the offset is off a little as well.

I ordered these disc http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...Passenger+Side which says they are an exact fit.

I haven't had a chance to put my brakes back together to check to make sure everything fits but is there even any reason? If two of the main dimensions are off I can't possible see how these are an exact fit hmmmmmm

Aspire automatic discs are 22mm to 20mm usable range and manual discs are 20-18. That's likely your problem.

I have a pair of auto Aspire ATE rotors. Here is the ATE part number that should be on the box label:

      CW22718

Now the one I got from Tire Rack was slightly different. It was ATE part # CW22711 and is slightly different. I have no idea why.

Most likely you have the first part number above. If so, this should be correct for auto Aspire and early Kia Rio.

Post if your ATE part number is different.

Another parts store that does not use ATE part numbers! I hate that.

the outboard half (pad clamp) from most any early 90's escort/tracer with 14 wheels will bolt to manual aspire calipers and allow you to use the thicker (automatic) aspire discs if that is your problem. the clamps are stamped 22V.

There was a time that folks specifically sought out ATX Aspires so as to get the thicker rotors (and corresponding wider calipers) but now I think you can merely seek to get hold of early Kia Rio calipers to rectify the problem. Or you could feign ignorance and order ATX calipers and then not say anything when you return the MTX 'cores' to the jobber.

Yep, that is what I have is an Auto Disc CW22718 and my suspension came from a manual. I just checked my calipers and they are 18V and the autos if I am not mistaken are 22V. That aggravates me that the website said nothing about disc from autos and manuals are different and not specifying which is which.

I just checked Rock Auto and they have rebuilt calipers for both autos and manuals. I'm going to call them Monday and see if I bought an auto caliper if they would take a manual as a core swap. I have no desire to loose $50-100 in core charges if they won't accept those on a trade. But seeing as I can't get the piston out of the caliper anyways I might just have to deal with it, spend the money, and get rebuilt calipers

don't even bother asking. the caliper BODY is the same for both man and auto. the ONLY difference is the bolt on half shell that is stamped 18V or 22V. keep that part anyway because some parts stores won't even include that part on their rebuilt calipers. it's just 2 bolts.

Ok sounds good. From what I read they basically said "If we send it to you, we want those parts back."
