  • Reason to keep key socket on car

Didn't bother me. I'll do it again if needed.

    Just for a knuckle.

Don't really understand the point in all that....?

Or what it has to do with a key hole?

I think it was along the lines of "Hey, I need to get this front knuckle off but there isn't any socket to fit the "tuner" lug nuts. Well I'll just bust the wheel to get to the knuckle."

Yup. Couldn't find a socket anywhere to fit without going to manufacture , and I Couldn't get caliper off with rim face in my way. So I sawzalled the beech.

Lkq wanted to charge for rotor and gob of aluminum still bolted to it. So I found a few odds and ends to make a setup to quick punch hub out with a hammer and impact socket.

I didn't want to spend money on the rims, so they are worth nothing to me.

Lesson learned, take the rims or leave the anti theft socket key, or more of me will do the same!

Ida gave money for those lol. I liked them.

The knuckles are too rusty for me to have done all that craziness.

            They wanted $25 a rim.

And my knuckle is egg shaped where the ball joint post goes up through.
I'm more concerned about alignment/ice then rust.

I may touch it with the sandblaster first. Regardless. I had my choices, and I chose cheapest/logical.

But how did you get the tuner lug nuts off? I'm guessing you had tools back home to take care of that?

Didn't take any nuts off. If I had tools at home to take them off, wouldn't of I brought them with me so I wouldn't have destroyed a good wheel?

Once knuckle was off and the axle out, I punched the hub out right there @ the yard, then took the spacer.

The wheel center is still bolted to the hub @ the yard, and the rotor is still sandwiched between them. If I brought it home they were going to charge me for the wheel anyways because of the weight, plus the rotor, and core charges, So the reason I punched the hub center out. $80 turned into $8 with a few hammer strikes.

So now home, I'll take the hub out the worn knuckle, and use in new knuckle. Simple.

Old knuckle has everything I need. Might buy a new seal if I b0rk it trying to get them out.
