I'm running Miata solid spokes with 185-60-14 tires and on 250 mile trips I get 37-38 mpg running 70-75 mph.

I have 2 sets of 14's that I run on my car. One set requires spacers and and one doesn't due to different offsets. The only problem I've had so far is a little contact with the tire and fenderwell on the rear when loaded, but a little massaging of the lip would fix that. I can't accurately comment on fuel mileage because I need to check it with the GPS since the speedometer is off by 4MPH with the 14's, but MPG doesn't seem to be much worse if any.

I think there is a sticky with a calculator to determine the percentage of change a tire makes. If you take your mileage, and the percentage is, say, 7 percent, you can just multiply by 1.07, and get pretty close, right?

Sounds good to me . Honestly, I was going to try to track it using that calculator....but I'm lazy LOL. I thought just using the GPS would be easier (and allow me to compare to the calculator accuracy), but I always forget to turn it on at some point during the run :highly_amused:

I may try the calculator after the next tank. I'm not super worried about it since it doesn't seem to be much worse than the 13's and I like the ride and handling of the 14's much better so I'm happy with the small trade-off.

The above mpg's I quoted are non corrected. If I remember correctly, on my car there is a 10% difference between the 145-12's and my 185-60-14's.

What are you looking to accomplish with larger wheels and tires? Keeping in mind that I'm Aspire-swapped, I initially had 185/60-14's and steelies... then downsized to 185/60-13's on Honda VX aluminum wheels instead. Much happier with the 13's because I've got performance tread, the same width, and a significantly lighter wheel now too.

                yeah, my 175 70 13's are 7.4% off, I usually just go with 1.07.

I'm running 165/60 R14 on my Festiva and my tires are the same overall height as stock tires but 1" wider so my MPG's didn't change. And it rides/drives much better!

7.8% too slow, when you are reading 60 on your speedo, you are doing 64.7. Multiply mileage by 1.07 and you should get close readings.

Old yellow said, "right now with the 175/60/12 tires."

You probably mean "165/70-12 tires." Someone may have made 175/60-12s, but they'd be hard to get and really rare here in the U.S.

Stick with a light weight wheel and a smaller overall diameter tire, like a 14x5 or 5.5, and something like the above mentioned 165/60 or 175/65 at the largest. The bigger sizes like 185/60 will cause a noticeable drop in performance and probably rub the rear strut.
