  • Brake Booster Removal : Aspire Booster Upgrade

Hey Guys I am putting an aspire booster with the escort GT master cylinder into the whitestiva and while taking the booster out of the aspire was a pita pulling the festy one out of my auto looks to be impossible with all the braces that are down there. Any sugestions as to how to get to the nuts holding in the brake booster? I did a search but didn't find much of any thing.

    Thanks

Should just be 4 nuts out back plus the foot pedal lever.

Yeah. I was trying to figure out the best way to get to them. There is all kinds of braces down there making getting a wrench in there rather rather difficult.

Yes, it is a PITA. Get out your universal joints and wobbly sockets. I'd like to know how your pedal will feel after though. I only put the GT MC and it's like having manual brakes. The Festiva booster doesn't have enough force.

I will. I'm curious myself. I'm putting a miata booster/aspire brake system on the skittle. And on whitestiva im gonna with stock brakes with aspire booster/escort master cylinder. It will be interesting to see which setup I like best.

When I swapped my booster, I used a lot of swearing, it helped

I just pulled my booster out yesterday so I could install a new rubber cover piece over the steering rack in the engine bay, and also re-installed a steering rack. (It needed to be undone so I could loosen all that bracing to get at the plate around the steering joint.) The seat, steering column and dash are out, so there was only the bracing in the way.
There are 4 nuts right up against the fire wall deep inside the brace supports, as you say. They require a very long extension arm for a socket wrench, and were a straight shot with no steering column, but might need a wobbly as well with the column in place. Then you have to pop the cotter pin, and slide out the pin that holds the booster piston rod to the pedal. With dash in place that will be hard to find. If you remove the driver seat you could get at it all with much more physical comfort and less contortion. And that is only 3 or 4 bolts, which are easy to get at.

all that work is worth it though when you see how puny the fester boostr is compared to the aspire. and this is the 8" MT booster. the ATX has a 9"er

Oh it's extremely well worth the upgrade, just a PITA to do is all lol

I have a protege booster on mine and I'm not sure of the diameter but if the aspire one is slightly smaller diameter, I may go for that instead since it'll give a hair more room to convert to hydro clutch

Yes. Wobbles and universal joints have made this task much easier. Just one more to go. Well worth the 12 bucks i spent at harbor frieght today. Now I think putting it back on will be the real hard part.
