  • We started the xr2 rearend tonight.

Lets just say it will be interesting. The k-member part will be a easy swap,BUT the xr2 rear struts are about 7 inches to long. So now were trying to find a replacement or how to modify on. I will keep all posted.

No, it's a miata transmission... and the shifter is going to sit where the emergency brake handle is, and he'll have a 12" driveshaft if he's doing what I think he's doing.

you are correct fred! actually im working on seeing if i cant get the shifter shaft shortened and have an adapter made to move the shifter roughly 4-6 inches forward, its a junk tranny and 2nd gear is going out by what im told, so i dont mind messing it up as its for mockup purposes only!

im also going to try to swap over the front suspension as well, using non of the original festiva mounting points, the miatas have an amazing amount of suspension mounted into both the front and rear subframes... not alot up top to pull together, i think it can be possibly done...

jsuts gotta put a clutch into the new festy i picked up last week and i can ger started tearing into my red beast...

^ Yes. But it won't fit in your Festiva.

I have an idea on how you can move that shifter forward. Use that transmission to get your floor pan modifications done, and then replace it with a 1st Gen NA 13B RX-7 transmission (shifter is farther forward then 2nd Gen). The point of the 13B transmission is to keep the 13B bolted to the front of it. With the rotary engine, you'll be able to position the engine and transmission much farther forward since the engine is only ~18" long, much shorter then a B-series Mazda.

                Rotary > Pistons

Not to mention you can get assloads more power from a simple NA rotary then you ever could from even the craziest most expensive and well-prepped NA BP. You could get well over 200 street-able hp NA from a ported 1.3L 13B.

fred, i should be hopefully picking up an 89 rx7 someday soon here as a full parts car once my tax returns come in. i dont believe that one will be the trans your talking about though is it? it should be the pre-86 trans if im right?

if all else fails i believe i can get the input shifter shaft shortened and make a mounting plate to move the base of the shifter forward.
