  • Aspire swap: Master cylinder, and tie rod end link questions

Question 1: Aspire master cylinder, does it make any REAL difference at all or no? I would love to get my like 50$ back for it if it isn't going to make a difference.

Question 2: I put my festiva tie rod end links into the aspire hub and it fit in there nice and tight. These end links are a lot nicer than the aspire ones i just bought and i would love to get 80$ back

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

I've never done the MC swap, the festy one is just fine for me. I've used the aspire & escort tie rod ends. Never even tried the stockers cause I was told the taper was different.

I've been driving little blue with aspire brakes and the 180K mile stock tie rod ends... its ok, but it does kinda feel funny when I get up above about 80-90... though that could also be due to the fact that the suspension also has 180K on it. But yeah, the stockers do fit.
      No festiva for me ATM...

I've done the swap on the front and I got the escort tie rods on. I could see what they are talking about the taper being different. It is different!Over time there might be a problem but I don't see there being a huge differecne in them where it's going to effect the driveability on the suspension. But if it's a proven way of doing the swap then why mess with that.

Well, the festy end links i have now are brand new, prolly have 4000 miles on them. They also have greese fittings in them and look pretty damn strong. I think i will just leave them in for now and if i get a shimmy or some thing i will change them out... I guess I mine as well keep the festiva master cylinder in as well since that is brand new along with the brake booster.

I would like some input from people who have used the aspire MC though..

For the MC you should PM wrester3025... he hasn't posted in a while but I think he still gets on from time to time. One of his cars has the aspire swap and an aspire MC, the other is aspire swap with the festy MC. He could probably give you a comparison of the two.

I had to swap the Aspire M/C in because my festy M/C started leaking a few weeks after the swap. The bore of the Aspire M/C is only 1mm larger than the festy, so the change in pedal height while braking was very slight. In fact I would probably guess that few people would even be able to tell the difference all things being equal.

The festiva are at 7% and the aspire are at 10% They might work for a while but they will hog out the hole and cause a bunch of slop and ruin the aspire spindle.

Yep - NovaSS is right. That taper needs to be matched. You might get by with for a while, I just don't know how safe it is. I think I would part with the money and install the escort tie rod ends. At least the taper fits. The 93 escort tie rod ends are a good fit for the aspire spindle as far as I can tell.

I have the Aspire MC and Brake Booster from an Auto Aspire in my Festy... All I can say is there IS a change in pedal effort. It is much easier to apply more brakes w/less effort. If I am not mistaken, I recall when I was doing research on it that the Aspire MC was 3/4" bore and the Festiva being 5/8" or maybe it was 3/4" and 7/8"... Either way it was an 1/8" bigger. Also the booster from the Auto Aspire was more than 2" in diameter larger than the Festiva one I swapped out. You can find some pictures of the difference on my cardomain page...

I have the xr2 booster and m/c. I like it cause it is shorter and gives a little more room in the engine bay. As far as effort I don't know cause the car is not going but willing to bet it has a better clamping force. Either way you go I would get a check valve to put inline. I will try to get some pics up.

Check valve? The valve that's supposed to be on the vacuum hose so if for some reason the car shuts off you still have brakes for a few seconds afterwards?? If not, please explain. -Kyle

I've had an aspire mc on my car for a year now, when i first installed had much better pedal feel, but maybe because festiva mc was bad.
