The problem I ran into was the struts being to tall. I didnt have time to look @ so cheaped out and went with the aspire. Keep us posted, looks like it will be on rails.

I'm hoping now that the similarity in width means that I can use the Escort front knuckles, transmission, intermediate axle, and CV axles without modification. The Escort just seems so much wider.
Other than a couple more test fit sessions and some measuring I didn't get any more work done on it this weekend. I couldn't find a replacement for my dead grinder in stock anywhere and this job is um... grinder intensive.
I also need to get the welder bottle filled before I get into serious welding. I hate to do a project like this with flux-core.

Built some custom control arms tonight. The top is a test of concept, the next is an adjustable toe control link using EGT adjuster hardware. There are also a couple on non-adjustable transverse links and the start of another adjustable link in there.
I could have used stock EGT arms, but I couldn't get poly bushings for them without spending too much money and ordering them from a far-off land. Each of these arms cost less than just the poly bushings for each arm would have been.
I think I'll powdercoat them red.
Anyway, just thought I'd post that. Progress is slow, but I am still moving forward.
Oh yeah, and I think I found a solution for the too-short rear damper travel.
I plan to remove the lower mounting ears off of the stock EGT struts, then weld them on the bottom of a pair of A1 VW front strut housings. I can set them lower on the strut housing - tailoring the travel where I want it to AND I can use A1 VW (rabbit) dampers which there are many many more damper options for those cars.

yeah, me too... and was wondering, what's the ID of the festy bearing, and the ID of the EGT bearing (both front)? if they're the same, then you could use the aspire hub and egt knuckle.... just a thought.Trees aren't kind to me...
