  • What pads for the aspire brakes?

I plan to upgrade my front pads soon. The rotors I got from the junkyard are slightly warped, I get a slight pulse from them. I have freshly turned rotors I'll use. What pads should I get. Autozone sells ceramic and carbon metalic. Which are better? Why?

I went with EBC Green's on mine. I did have to take the dremel to them though. The backing pad needed to be ground off so the guides could slide easily through.

How do you like the pads? I looked around for some performance pads and found the Aspire calipers can hold just about any performance companies pad from the 323 or Escort but since my pads are still in good condition, I wanted to hold off getting them.. Let us know what you think about them. -Kyle

I recently bought new Aspire brakes for my Festiva. I'm using the thinner MT discs and calipers to reduce weight. My car is a dedicated autocross car and is not street driven.

I bought EBC Green pads online from AJ-USA for $53.10 including shipping. These pads are appropiate for lightweight street driven cars.

I bought Brembo discs from AutoBarn.com. Both for $47.09 including shipping. This is by FAR the cheapest price I could find. Most brake techs will recommend these rotors over any normal brand like Raybestos or Delco, even more at this price. These rotors are not drilled or slotted, both of which decrease the usable life of a disc and reduce braking performance.

I bought stainless brake lines from Paragon Performance, who I think make them for FMS, for $138.55 including rush shipping. If I was willing to measure the stock lines and tell a supplier the dimensions, they could have been much cheaper, but I was in a hurry.

I bought rear shoes and new drums from the local NAPA. Don't remember the price.

FWIW, Paragon seems like a one-man operation. AutoBarn is a wholesaler and AJ-USA is a well known racer-supply shop. I had good experiences dealing with all these businesses despite their bottom dollar prices.

The greens are a touch grippy on a wet morning, but by the time i'm out of the driveway that's gone. Other than that I like them just fine. They haven't dusted up my wheels yet so i'm not sure about that and i'm not sure on longevity either.
