  • Tie rods

    anyone have any tips on changing a tie rod? I am purchasing a 93 festiva on saturday and looking for a heads up on what im getting into or if its worth paying somone to do it.

    No it's not hard at all, but make sure you leave the castle nut on the tie rod threaded so the top of the castle is flush with the bottom of the tie rod so you can whack it with a hammer to pop the tie rod off. Also, before you take the castle nut off make sure you loosen the lock nut on the inner tie rod arm and take note as to where the old tie rod was so you can keep it basically aligned until you can take it to a shop to have it aligned. -Kyle

      i also heard that if you change steering racks remember the year of the car that the replacement rack came out of because it may be different threads than the one being replaced.
