  • Will these fit?

Ok so i'm thinking about getting new tires for my Aspire. i'm thinking about putting on 205/60/13s.
will those fit on my stock rims, and will they rub against my wheel well at all?
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.

205 seems a bit wide for a 4.5" wide rim. Will they physically fit? Yah, they should. I wouldn't do it though.

I had that size on my Festiva with an Aspire suspension and a spacer in the rear for strut clearance. Rubbed quite a bit over bumps.

well my car is stock all around, the wells look like they should have enough clearance even if I should turn the wheel. keyword "should"

        how come?

Talk me out of it if this is a really bad idea, or let me know if there's something that's not quite as wide, but still wider than normal sized tires

I would stay away from that wide a tire on that skinny a rim!

Tire width should be matched with the appropriate rim width, not only for best handling and cost-effectiveness, but in extreme cases (like this one, IMO), for safety as well.

I'd be really concerned about the tire coming off in hard cornering.

Am I a mechanic? No. Just a concerned citizen.

Go to the TireRack site and when you look up individual tire brands and their sizes & application info, there is a recommended rim width range to shoot for. That should give you an idea of what is "reasonable."

I'd be leary of going over a 175 tire width on that 4.5" wide Aspire rim. When I first saw folks were mounting the Falken 175/60s on them, I thought it was a bit much, but I guess that combination is now time-tested.

I would prefer a 5" rim width for 175 tires myself. Before I put 175/70s on my '81 Civic I bought some 13 X 5" wide steel dealer takeoffs to replace my original 4.5" wide rims. (At five bucks a wheel, that didn't kill me. Never found that good a deal at a Honda place ever again though.)

Plus, it'll look like a wheelbarrow tire. Skinny little rim with all sorts of rubber ballooning out to the side. No good for handling and they'll deform at the top as well, making it more likley to hit your fender in a turn.

                These are 195/50R15 on a 15x6.5" wheel.

Now pull the rim in an inch and move the tire sidewall out 0.2 inch.

These are probably the Sumitomo's from Tire rack, right? GREAT tire, but it's too big. Thus, I tried to talk you out of it. Even with Aspire suspension (more rear spring perch clearance in the rear) they still required a spacer. And they rubbed on the front fender at anything resembling a bump.

BTW - they are made for a 4.5-5.5" wheel, IIRC. They looked pretty good, too. And they drove and handled GREAT, but it annoyed the helloutta me, the rubbing did!

I am running 185/60/13's on stock Aspire steelies on my Festy and they have been fine, no problems whatsoever with unbeading issues even when I AutoX'd them last season or under normal driving conditions... I would NOT go any wider though, on these wheels. DiamondRacingWheels.com has some good cheap steel wheels for almost any size... I'm thinking about ordering a set. If I do I'll let everyone know how it goes. -Kyle
