  • minigun brake system

I went ahead and ran the rear brake line inside the car, I wanted to run the adjustable proportioning valve next to the shifter so this was the easiest way to do it . I still have to secure the lines down.

I still have to do an e brake to make it legal. I going to mount a single rotor onto the center half shaft with a simple cable operated caliper, this is real popular on street rod but the mount the rotor on the pinon.

umm, having the brake line in the passenger compartment is NOT LEGAL, or SAFE (hence the "not legal"). if you still want the adjuster next to the shifter, i suggest you mount the adjuster in the tunnel and extend the adjustment rod through the tunnel (Legal and Safe).

never heard that one before, Fuel line of course but never heard anything about brake lines,I dont think having the engine in there is too legal either

not to argue with you Arty, but what regulation specifying location of the brake line's location are you refering to? I sit on the board that writes Maryland State Vehicle Safety Inspection laws, and couldn't find anything prohibiting the location of the line.

What safety issues do you see with the location of the line?

um, wow, the car looks good. verry good. congradulations.

as far as the brake line goes....as an ase certified mechanic i see no saftey problems with that. it would in fact bee safer than having them underneath the car waiting for the first log or cat to rip them loose. although hopfully with a sweet ride like that you wont be hitting either.....my wifes old '91-92 civic wagon had brake and if i rember right fuel lines run inside the vehicle...added bonus, 150k miles and the only rust was where the went back outside the vehicle....

sory for the long and possibly incoherent post, its really late/early.....

well, apparently PA sees that the brake line is just like fuel and oil lines (like under pressure), and thus a safety issue. I guess their beef is that if for some reason the line would burst it could cause some serious issues. Also, you're more likely to see a leak from under the car than from the interior where it's covered by carpet and other stuff.

Nova, what factory cars have you seen that run brake lines in the cabin? all my years of working on cars and now inspecting them as well, i've never seen interior brake lines, OR fuel lines.

                  ^^^ bingo. exactly correct.

I checked my access with NHTSA for a FMVSS about brake lines. They do not specify routing path, other than they must not be directly exposed, in any aspect, to a situation that presents 'imminent failure'.

My 300ZX has a part of the brake system in the trunk (i think it's a puportioning valve or something) therefore brake lines are inside the passenger compartment (it's a hatchback) so to me brake lines in the car is completely legal

ok, i checked with my master mechanic and came to the comclusion that, YES it's a bad idea (especially if service is ever involved), but NO it's not Illegal. i retract previous statements.

Nova, corvairs did NOT have a fuel powered heater system, at least not from '62 on up (i have a '62, '64, and '66 on my property) those were all run off a blower that pulled hot air from the engine cowl in the engine bay and vented it forward through the floor and under the seats.

The gas heater was replaced in 1961 with duct work and was an option till 1964.

                          Mike,
Could you use '88-89 Turbo Coupe calipers with thier integral parking brake? You'd have to make brackets....I think you're up to the task!

I noticed that some of the mustangs used 11.65 rotors ( I have 11.6 rotors) but the rears calipers are set up for a narrow rotor .

I think the mustangs were .660 and the rotors I have are 1.03. Im still looking into this.
