Tom, is there a load bearing dyno available in your area? Typically, Dyno jet units aren't used for comparative numbers because they are inertia units which roughly guesstimate TQ based on the acceleration of an unloaded drum. They are popular because insurance companies give discounted rates to shops that have a dynamic test cell, since it means less need for road testing customer vehicles. Dyno jet finances the units,so it's nearly free in some high risk areas, with the offset of the insurance reduction and the financing option. They came up with a great niche for selling these units, but (the last time I checked) they never advertise that they can be used to accurately measure output.
Dyno jet units are known to provide inflated power figures from poorly tuned small engines (especially turbocharged ones) because the erratic TQ spikes actually fool the dyno. This was a huge reason abnoxious hybrid turbos sold so well to the Honda tuners in the 90's. These destructive and imbalanced turbos were magical on the dyno jet, but horrible on the street. LolLast edited by Advancedynamix; 09-22-2015, 01:15 PM.Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. DynoJet does offer an eddy-current option. With this electric brake, the DynoJet is closer to being a tool that can be used to accurately measure TQ, and therfore HP. It's still not capable of being calibrated for true SAE net, so any numbers are really only comparable to numbers taken from that same dyno. DynoJet numbers should never be advertised as actual HP. For that you'll want a Maha, Mustang or even Dyno Pack that has been appropriately calibrated and maintained. The operator must also be trained and know what he's doing. A simple gear ratio input error or altitude correction error will give skewed results.
Dyno shops will often inflate numbers for street car guys to get them pumped up and have return customers. The same shop will then "adjust" the calibrations for spec racers to give low "class legal" numbers. That's the politics of a dyno shop. Haha. I always insist upon calibrated and uncorrected numbers. I don't need to know my crank output at a theoretical sea level and ideal air temp. "Just shoot it to me straight doc" haha
Here is a little write up to help you learn about different dyno machines and how they are used.

Here is the dyno run for Matt's B3 (post #153), on the same dyno I will be using Friday. Seems very reasonable, not inflated, considering my roll-on results with Dan's carby B6.Last edited by TominMO; 09-22-2015, 05:10 PM.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

Reattached my bumper cover, hatch spoiler and added front mudflaps (courtesy of Ben/nonamekid). Legally I probably need a longer exhaust tip.
MPG run coming on Thursday.
Aaaaand just for fun: 4 Festys in a short 2-car garage. Left to right: Larry, my current car; Casper, a BP car; and my former B6D car. In back is a parts car. All gone now except for Larry.

These tires are only 165/55-14s, so no width issue. Good point about looking lower.Last edited by TominMO; 09-22-2015, 06:24 PM.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

Casper may end up in my possession at some time. The car has been out here for a few years, but now Brett has moved and it's still here. He also has the turbo engine from Pimptiva when it was grey. The only value to that stuff for me is nostalgic, but it would be cool to have a part of ancient festiva tuning history.Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Greg owned it briefly in 2010, but I forget who he sold it to.
EDIT: did some research. Greg sold it to Brett/hamburglar. Charlie, is Casper running well now? If you do acquire him, post up some current pix please.Last edited by TominMO; 09-22-2015, 09:51 PM.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods
