1991 GL aka; the blue bandit

first off, thanks to sparky, i now own a good DD while restoring my red festy,

lets see, sparky bought this car in nov. 08, and messed with it but
lack of time, stopped progress, so i picked it up off him yesterday.
430 miles round trip and i made it home.

its a gl, but door pockets have been taken out
152,300 miles, little valve tick from sitting?

installed protege bp alternator,battery,pvc valve,fuel filter,fuel pump,
plugs, wires,cap,rotor,oil,filter,flushed rad,tranny,and bled brakes,
new brake pads, rear wheel bearings.
flushed tank and lines.

TURNED KEY, AND IT FIRED UP AND OFF I WENT!

still has power issues, and wants to die, but i think its cause the cat/exhaust is stopped up, getting it straight piped with just muffler, and new o2 sensor in it

gonna clean injectors, and gut cat tonight.
and gonna drain tank all the way this time,
then should be ready for tag and insurance

a clogged cat wont' cause the car to die unless it's compleatly stopped up, usually you can get the car to idle smoothly and move at a limited speed before it clogs completely.
if you haven't experianced this yet, then look elsewhere before jumping to conclusions.

just figured it had something to do with cat/exhaust cause
my honda i had acted the same, (it sat for a long time too)
and as soon as cat,muffler, and all new pipes were installed
it ran fine.
just figured i would go ahead and gut it and put new muffler on it
for the peace of mind and that my other blue one runs good that way.

ok, i knew from the first time i drove it, that 1st gear
wouldnt engage unless u double clutched it.
but today, i went to drive it farther than i have been(10 miles one way)
i turn on a road that had 55mph speed limit.
get up to speed, and put it in 5th for the first time since i got the car,
and NOTHING, its like im putting it in nuetral!
i tried double clutching, but no luck.
it goes into the spot for 5th, but thats it.
and after driving a couple miles in 4th, then stopping.
trying to put it in 1st is a pain...
gonna swap out trans for the 5 speed at PAP.

but car is running pretty good,

Nice cars. Is is difficult getting it in 3rd too? could be a linkage issue since 1st and 5th are acting funny.

well, 3rd only wont go in if i wind up thru 2nd, then try to put it into 3rd.
if im casualy driving it goes in fine.
taking motor and trans out tomorrow, and replacing oil pan,rear main seals.
it has a slight leak, also replacing valve covor gasket monday.
also swapping interior from my red car into it, and putting this interior in
my red car. since its brown, plus better shape.

im unsure why my 89 L has grey
and my 91 GL has brown?
my friend john's 88 L has grey interior too?
is that normal?

I believe int colors were simply matched to go with ext colors.

Some ext colors can come with either int color.

My white '89L has tan int.

My aqua '91L, red '92L and red '93GL all have grey interiors.

i have seen 2 blue festys at PAP that had brown interior.
both were 89's.
my build date on this car is 5-30-91
and on my other blue car is 6-10-91
i dont know, its just weird.
i got my 89 car stripped, and most of interior out of this car.
will post pix when i get done,
also installed one of my escort map lights in it

Of my first two Festys, my 1989 had a brown interior and my 1991 had a grey one.
