Terrace, yeah I guess the used market is a bit small. So how are you going to get your hands on a B8? They show up pretty often at PicnPull in Edmonton, and you might even talk me into pulling you one. But shipping is still going to kill, and it will still have around 200,000 km on it given the typical car at PnP.
I recently bought a Japanese domestic market Miata engine from Tiger in Ontario for $600, and shipping to Edmonton was $200. These are usually low mileage, compression tested blocks. I swapped over all the B6T intake, exhaust, coolant connections, oil pan and other stuff, and then it bolted right in. If you have a B8 now, you could probably do the same thing. I guess you'd have to search a bit to find out if the DOHC Miata head fits the SOHC B8 intake and exhaust manifolds. The rest would work for sure.
